how well does it work? Do you leave it open? If you leave it open, does that run the battery down much at all?

Seems plently loud enough when it's open, I tried closing it but its far to quiet and hard to whack in the morning that way. Trusting a battery powered alarm clock just seems like a bad idea.

well. I was hoping for a quick answer before bed. I guess it'll kind of be like being a test pilot.

I will report my results.

I don't have a DS, but I'm thinking of getting one, and I'm somewhat curious about this alarm feature... do you have to leave the DS on for it to work, or do you put it into some kind of standby mode from which it will awaken at the proper time? If you have to leave it on, does it automatically darken its displays? I wouldn't want to have a lit LCD screen shining out at me all night.

When you close the DS, it automaticly goes into standby mode. I don't think alarm will work, if you shutdown the DS, haven't tried that tho...

WHen the alarm is on, the screen darkens.
I dont imagine it uses much battery life at all.

It uses enough to go dead flat in the night and not wake me up for work :( Mission Failed.

mains or nothing. The actual alarm feature is quite decent though. So it gets louder when it's closed?

Haha, don't mean to be mean, bu tthat made me smile. Actually, I'm in beijing at thte moment, and instead of buying a travel clock, I have been using my DS! I just close it after setting it, and the screens turn off (not just the lamp, but I think the entire screen). It has been working for days without having to recharge.

In other news, does anyone know the situation of DS games in China? Do pirate games exist for DS yet? I've seen a few games, some of them are US, and some Japanese. I don't think the Nintendo DS Ique has been released yet though.

I definitely use mine as an alarm clock. Not so much anymore because I can sleep in now but it is a very effective alarm clock. I just keep it plugged in to the charger. Usually when it wakes me up, I just start playing Meteos right away. :lol

so battery charger doesn't affect a non-drained battery with these types of batterys right?

Round 2 this evening I guess.

It really shouldn't. Even if it does, it should only be the slightest affect that will not diminish the overall performance of the battery in the long run.

I find the "time remaining" a little discouraging. it's like a reminder that I have screwed up and won't be rested for work tomorrow.

I actually use the little tyke as an alarm clock often. The thing gets LOUD after the first initial beeps.

I love my DS as an alarm clock. Keep it closed, it doesn't affect it too much. I love it because it starts off really low and gets higher, so it doesn't scare the fuck out of you. I find it very suitable.

It's better than the horrid screech my alarm clock makes, and music doesn't usually wake me up, so it is currently my main alarm clock. Only twice has it failed: once I turned the volume down and forgot to turn it up, and the other time it failed to wake me.

The only problem is resisting the urge to play Meteos when it is so close to my head.

I just tested the alarm and there's no way in hell that it would wake me if my DS was closed. I was hoping that it would continue to get louder but the loudest it gets with the DS closed would never wake me up.

Haha, damn you're a hard sleeper. that thing wakes me up on my worst days. then again, i wake up if someone barely touches me.

I sleep through my alarm clock sometimes. The funny thing about my alarm clock is that I keep it across my room so that I have to walk to it to turn it off and sometimes I wake up 20 minutes after it was supposed to go off and I had already turned it off in my sleep (not just hit the snooze) and have no memory of turning it off.

I have a typical alarm clock over my head but I don't use it anymore because the same thing happens to me everytime I try to use it as an alarm clock. I always end up turning it off subconciously. Now I just leave my DS plugged in at the foot of my bed so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. Works just fine.

Hah, I used to be just like that, have it on the opposite side of the room. Then I'd just go over, turn it off completley and go back to bed, and not remember doing so.

I've trained myself to be not so stupid though.
