Anything better than MS publisher..

Any layout package is better than Publisher :)

Try Adobe InDesign, that's what many (myself included) consider to be the best. Don't bother if you need the help of guided wizards to make things though, it's very much a do-it-yourself kinda program :)

Thanks for your help! But I think I may have found what I'm looking for, its a program called "Publisher Arts Explosion Pro", seems very user friendly and filled with tons of features.

Hey Freestyler, did you use anything before InDesign? I messed around with the 30-day demo and it seems very good, but a little bit of a challenge after spending a lot of time with Quark XPress.

How long did it take you to get comfortable with it?

QuarkXpress is 14 year old technology. InDesign is brand-new. There's more to do and more to learn, and of course, more ways to piss off your printer. Shouldn't take long to get comfortable with since it shares a similar interface with other Adobe applications. Quark is dead.

I nearly cried when I first used Quark (6.0, I think that's the latest one) because I just couldn't make it do what I wanted. I really really hate Quark, and stay clear of it as much as possible.

I got comfortable with InDesign the second I first used it (after using PageMaker, *shudder*), but that has a lot to do with the fact that I just seem to understand Adobe apps.

I recommend you purchase InDesign, it's by far the best layout app. available and will soon be used more than Quark in the industry. It's especially useful if you're also using Illustrator and Photoshop, as you can bring in native PSD and AI files into InDesign and play with layer styles and everything right there in your layout.

Quark is just confused as hell. Unless you know Quark, Quark is terrible. InDesign is somewhat difficult to 'get right' as well, but its worlds better than Quark.

Yeah, there's no question you have to do a lot of things in odd, archaic ways in QUark to do what you want.

I was pretty pleased with what I managed to pull off in InDesign in my short time with it. Maybe one day I'll have reason to pick it up :)
