October 31, 2005 - For the week ending October 22, strategy may have reigned, but everyone was also spending quality family time with the good ol' FPS. Both QUAKE 4 and F.E.A.R. -- in two editions each -- fill out the majority of the Top 10, scooting even The Sims down to the bottom five -- always a feat. World of Warcraft is still accounted for, of course, and Black & White 2 lands respectably at Number 8.

Here's the data from The NPD Group:

1. Age of Empires III (Microsoft)

2. QUAKE 4 (Activision)

3. F.E.A.R. (Vivendi Universal)

4. F.E.A.R. Director's Ed. (Vivendi Universal)

5. QUAKE 4 Special Ed. (Activision)

6. The Sims 2 Nightlife (Electronic Arts)

7. World of Warcraft (Blizzard)

8. Black & White 2 (Electronic Arts)

9. Battlefield 2 (Electronic Arts)

10. The Sims 2 (Electronic Arts)

The fact that I'm agreeing with MAF on something is pretty noteworthy, but yea AOE3 despite some tepid reviews is actually a whole lot of fun.

Does anyone have any estimates on the actual sales of these games? I always wonderd how the actual number of units sold compares to that of consoles? Are the PC games in Xbox number territory?

For example, the first month of Doom 3 on Xbox sold about 450K copies. Would the PC version of Quake 4 be around that number if it is the overall number two game this month?
