Apple has blocked Fortnite from being released for iOS

are in a big trouble

Fortnite maker Epic Games has announced that Apple has blocked the game's return to iOS. Following the rejection, Fortnite is no longer available on iPhones and iPads even in the European Union, where it had previously been available to download through the Epic Games Store.

"Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union," the company posted on the official Fortnite X account. "Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it."

The Verge has confirmed that the game is no longer available to download on iOS from the Epic Games Store or the alternative marketplace AltStore PAL in the EU, where it had previously been available. It's not yet clear if Apple blocked the game's availability through those stores, or if Epic itself chose to make it unavailable. We've reached out to both Apple and Epic for comment.

Fortnite returned to iOS in the EU last year, but only through those two storefronts, and not Apple's App Store. The return was made possible by the EU's Digital Markets Act, which required Apple to allow third-party app stores on iOS.

Epic had resubmitted Fortnite to the US App Store this month following a recent ruling in Epic's lawsuit against Apple. That ruling prohibited Apple from restricting developers' ability to link to external payment systems, one of the issues that had started their long-running legal battle. Epic was forced to use its EU developer account to resubmit the game, as its US account was terminated in 2020 when it first broke Apple's rules by introducing its own in-app payments to the game.

This week Epic CEO Tim Sweeney announced that the company had pulled its previous Fortnite submission and submitted a new version that included an update due to release today, noting that "all platforms must update simultaneously." He's since taken to X repeatedly to complain that unofficial Fortnite knock-offs have been allowed into the App Store while Fortnite hasn't, claiming that Apple's app review process has been "weaponized by senior management."

What is the world coming to?

Kanye West is a cuck.
Jade Raymond left Haven
And now Fortnite is blocked!?

Somebody please call Ja Rule so i can make sense of all this!!

Pretty sure this is illegal and epic are going to sue apple. If fortnite/epic aren't breaking any terms of service then i don't see how you can ban a highly profitable game from your platform. And apple products suck in general tbh, and apple phones especially are overpriced and not worth it compared to Samsung etc.

The amount of fake games and shovelware on iOS is sickening. Fake games have been an issue since TikTok came back. It's all a bunch of garbage. People are supporting these games and being fake as hell all at the same time. Apple doesn't stop that either.

Ballsy of Apple to do stuff like this less than a month after getting BTFO'd in court. EU just needs to slap them with that maximum fine the DMA allows for already.

I'm so pissed off because I've been installing the European version in the US and even that is blocked too. Tim Cook needs to go to jail, the women's section so he can't enjoy all the free dick in the men's section. 🤬

they just didn't like the results so going in for round to and pay off folks for the result they want is what will prolly happen.

They don't let Activision has in-app sales because Apple doesn't get the cut in that way

That's the reason they blocked Fortnite initially but the court ruling nixed that. Did Apple say what the new reason was for blocking the app?

They submitted a version and turned right around and submitted a new version before the first was processed.

So after Unreal decided to fight Apple in court due to their microtransaction gouging, Tim decided to go for the petty route. Classy

Apple has no obligation to public their reasoning to block until someone appeal it in the court, which obviously EPIC will do and Tim will let the world know asap.

Apple must have an airtight legal cause.

I think it's funny Apple keeps blocking them. At the end of the day they are both losing potential money because of it
In the end, Apple will lose significantly more, which is why they are so strongly defending themselves.

Good job Apple.
I hate Apple but they are allowed to have their closed eco system.
Epic tried to force Apple trough court and now Apple is going to make it as painful as possible for Epic to release their game again.

Apple just recently got fined 570€m by the EU for violating the DMA and abusing their market power.
Blocking Fortnite in the EU is yet another DMA violation - they REALLY want to fuck around and find out it seems.

I wonder if it will eventually work on Apple TVs? I'd toss it on the one in my bedroom for the random game. Bought Chrono trigger on it a little while ago and it's pretty good on it. I'd try this.

You mean because it potentially opens up a payment system for other applications outside of Apple store? Just curious. I don't mean anything by questioning.

As it should be. Epic has no problem paying 30% to Sony and Microsoft.

Epic Games is partially owned and controlled by Tencent (50% of the board members). They want to force Apple to allow the Tencent appstore on iPhones. That's all there is to it.

And opening themselves up for more judicial oversight. They just got hit hard for trying to wriggle out of a previous judgement, and now they are trying to wriggle out of it again using a different method.
