SAN FRANCISCO - Consumers who had battery problems with older versions of the popular iPod digital music player will get $50 vouchers and extended service warranties under a tentative settlement in a class-action lawsuit.

Lawyers representing consumers in the state court case against Apple Computer Inc. said Thursday that the settlement could affect as many as 2 million people nationwide who purchased first-, second- and third-generation iPods through May 2004.

That's why you don't make an electronic device with a non-removeable battery. I just hate when companies do that. Glad I got rid of my Treo600.

As fas as does it apply to canadians? It doesn't seem like it would, sorry.

The Court has conditionally ruled that the Litigation may be maintained on behalf of the following Class:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who purchased or obtained a First, Second, or Third Generation iPod on or before May 31, 2004.

I got mine in 2001, battery hasn't died yet. I get about 5-6hrs battery life. I can't wait to get the 50 dollar voucher.

Off topic, sorta, but I got the now discontinued 40 gig G4 iPoc recently at a really good price. How long is the battery suppoed to last in those, cuz I'm only getting 3 hours, 4 tops.

Heh, this has what's put me off buying an HD MP3 player...seems damn near all of 'em have built in batteries. If anyone knows of models that don't, I'd love to know.

I bought a Third Generation iPod 15GB in August 2004. =(

The thing is, my brother who had taken it from me (due to certain circumstances) had gotten it repaired for some reason. I don't know what exactly, but I think that the iPod I had purchased was just left over stock. When had the 4GB been released?
