Some co-workers mentioned this today and I have to admit I'm intrigued...have I been missing out all this time?

What say you GAF? Apple pie with or without cheese?

Do you melt it or not?

I've never done it before (or heard of it) but it sounds kind of amazing... I love sweet and savory and I really love fruit and cheese. I'm not sure about melting it though... I feel like that would ruin it and make it greasy.

pretty good, but I only have a tiny bit of cheese on the side. Not melted all over the top. The contrast in the spicy sweetness of apple cinnamon and the sharp salty savory of good cheddar is nice.

It's actually very good if you are using good cheese. Don't go putting a Kraft single on there expecting a culinary miracle to happen.

I dunno, I think the top pic is a good compromise...partially soft/melt, mostly intact.

I've never done it, even though I love apple pie and I love cheddar even more.

It just sounds like an abomination, like Levar Burton's horrible instructions to wrap a banana in a processed cheese slice and eat it (DO NOT DO THIS).

With a small amount of sharp white cheddar on the side, sure. All those pictures appear to be using a lousy orange-dyed store-brand CheddarCheez™

I bet it's actually pretty good, if you melt it it would add a layer of creaminess to the top and just a pinch of saltiness to the flavor.

I can definitely see this working, I won't hate on it till I try it.

PS: Swiss cheese in hot cocoa during the winter is magical and if you don't like it you're a total pleb and I hate you forever.

It's died to hide the natural color fluctuations that appear in aged cheeses...not all died cheddars are shitty brands.

A nice sharp cheddar is a great complement for apple in general, and an apple pie is no exception. I'm a fan of this. I'd have a tough time choosing it over a scoop of ice cream, though. (Would cheddar ice cream on apple pie be the ultimate? Maybe.)

Seems to be a popular thing as of late. I'd never heard of it until recently... all I can assume is that it originates from Wisconsin or something.

Apple pie is fucking disgusting, but I love eating apples with sharp cheddar cheese slices

and my favorite sandwich is a bacon turkey club with sharp cheddar and granny smith slices
