Apple releases video showing support for pride

I realized that the Apple symbol may not work on non-Apple machines, so would a mod kindly change the thread title to " Pride: Apple releases video of their pride festivities"?

This is more of PR move from Apple than anything else, but then again PR can promote companies to do good things.

Except the fact that the CEO himself is gay, so perhaps he's gotten comfortable with mixing both his corporate power and fighting against some of the discrimination he's talked about in the past?

Nice to see Apple joining the ranks of Facebook and Google with this. I think this is one of the first (if not the first) political statements Apple has ever made.
"

Apple's been making statements in support for a while. Most recently I remember a statement they made in support of the Supreme Court's decision on the gay marriage ban. They donated money to fight Prop 8 back in 2008 and are also one of the companies that offer benefits to same sex couples. I believe they were part of the 'it gets better' video campaign as well.

In most of these threads involving corporations,

"It's only a PR move..."

Yes, that is the point. Sincerity can be subjective, but if they are getting their message across and people listen then numerous causes can benefit.

In this day and ages does it really matters? We are all human, who cares what you do in your private life, but if it make some people happy good for them.

cool video, but it's a shame their entry into the actual Pride Parade here in SF sucked so much. Just a bunch of employees in white shirts with tiny flags. They didn't even use the rainbow apple logo, just one with a black logo with a tiny rainbow outline. They got put to shame by a local thai food restaurant

He has spoken about it before.

He doesn't do personal interviews or personal media dates, so it's seen as him not being 'open' but he is just one of those CEOs that don't incorporate personal into business. Which is fine for me.

He didn't actually say he was gay in that speech though. Not that he has to but if that's considered a coming out speech it's the polar opposite of Ellen Page speech.

Why do people still say Tim Cook's openly gay? He's never talked about his sexuality, we don't know what his orientation is and it's no one's damn business but his own.

This video is about a company participating in a parade, not an announcement on Tim Cook's sexual orientation.

Unless he was speaking hypothetically about being gay or in general terms...And why do people keep getting so defensive about it? The whole "it's no one's damn business but his own" makes it sound like you're angry, despite no one on here seeming to care and more just wondering

He said he was discriminated but didn't say what he was discriminated on. LGBT pride is more than just gay men you know...

Its one of these things that everyone knows about but no one talks about.
There was a thread about that recently CNBC panelist (potentially) outs Apple CEO Tim Cook as gay

This talk about Tim Cook is completely new to me! Anyway the video was good, Apple make god tier commercials / videos in the tech world.
