Appreciating Pinkerton...we just have to.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
I felt compelled to make this thread, since I'm listening to the record right now. It's one of the 10 records that I can listen to over and over again. I've probably been listening to it since I was 14 (I wasn't into rock up until then). 6 years later, man...the songs just don't get boring. I have it in the car often, so whenever I'm feeling in a kick ass mood and I'm with my best friend (big early-Weezer fan) we're just totally fucking loving every second of it; as if it's the first time we're hearing the record. If I tried to make a list of my favorite 5 tracks, I'd feel like an asshole for leaving out the rest. The record's flawless.

Pinkerton rocks.

Pinkerton is my favorite Weezer album, with the Blue Album running a close second.

"Goddamn you half-Japanese girls!" Great line....

Alright, so I'm a relative newbie to Weezer. I love the blue album, and also really dig Pinkerton. I've yet to listen to anything else. I get the impression that everything else is not that hot? I have to admit, I find the cover to the new album a bit... off-putting.

The new album is the best out of the post-Pinkerton albums IMO, but if you haven't heard Green or Maladroit yet, do yourself a favor and never listen to them ever. It will crush your soul.

I like Blue better than Pinkerton, but Pinkerton is still awesome.

I'd have to disagree. I felt this latest album was the most uninspired and laziest entry that Weezer has made so far. Pinkerton was a great album, and even Maladroit and The Green Album have their merits, but the latest offering leaves very little to be desired. Beverly Hills might be the only decent song on the album. It doesn't even sound like Weezer. When I first heard it the song I though it belonged to one of those poser "punk" bands.

I'd probably rank....

Pinkerton > Blue > Make Believe > Maladroit >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Green

I love the new album, but I hate how it's only playable via Quicktime on the PC.

Good Charlotte? This discussion is about Weezer. If we wanted to talk about shitty music, then the comment would be appropriate! :D

WHO DEY!?
Am I the only person who feels like they have "outgrown" Weezer? I don't mean this as a troll, but as catchy as some of these songs are I just think they are pretty juvenile. Pinkerton was their last album I can say I REALLY enjoyed (right when it came out). I'm turning into a curmudgeon I guess.

I think you missed the point :p

I don't know about you, but I usually tend to stick with a band once I get to like them. (I still listen to Dead Milkmen and They Might Be Giants) I agree that some of Weezer's lyrics of late are slightly weak, but I still enjoy them over most of the stuff out there. If Weezer's next album is as poor as this one is, then I might bail on them. One bad album does not a bad band make.

the only songs i consider weezer songs are the ones that include weezer's original line-up.
everything else is a shadow of what they were.

I'm surprised so many people put Maladroit above Make Believe; I'd never make that decision in a million years! Green Album and Make Believe are about on par with one another, personally, but I'd probably like Green Album more if they re-did it today with their newfound confidence and studio production. Songs like Smile (supposed to be a piano-based ballad) would be absolutely beautiful...

I mean really guys, Maladroit has Possibilities. :(

it's going to come out of you and it's going to taste so good
Didn't like Pinkerton much when it first came out for some reason. Then just this year I hear it again and it totally blew me away. What was I thinking? Listened to it for a week straight almost.

nothing on green or maladroit comes close to some of the songs off "make believe"

I don't know how any weezer fan could favor any song off green or mala compared to -

- Perfect Situation
- This is Such a Pity
- Peace

These don't compare with Pinkerton (nothing will) but they are good weezer songs.

Maladroit is fucking shit for the most part. What's with palm muting every other frigin chord? WTF are they trying to be metal for? Metallica doesn't even palm mute that much (exaggeration...still, point stands).

Maladroit is tripe. Make Believe is half-decent and definitely their 3rd best album. The way I look at it is:

Pinkerton=Blue (more or less) > B-sides collection >>>>> Make Believe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Green=Maladroit

Like I said, IMO. Besides thinking that Pinkerton is a great album and not liking Beverly Hills, your opinion of Weezer is pretty much the exact opposite of mine.

It should be said that I like Beverly Hills. I like loud synched choruses with simple and catchy lyrics with paused drum beats; I'm just a sucker for it -- it reminds me of stadium rock songs like "We Will Rock You". Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not up to par with what they've done in the past, but it's just a cool song to sing along to with a bunch of friends in your car. This is Such a Pity on the other hand...that's a great song.

Actually the more I spin Make Believe, the more I'm really starting to love it.

This is such a Pity is a great song, very 80ish vibe and a great flow.
The Other Way is quite catchy and fun
I love the guitar work on Perfect Situation also.

Can't stand We are All on Drugs or Hold Me though, kinda bland, but the rest of the album is very good.:)

I saw Weezer live in support of Pinkerton. I never want to see them again.

Not because they were bad, but because they've recorded so many songs I don't want to hear since then.

I know. I can't even buy Make Believe.

Pinkerton rocks, one of the greatest opening tracks on an album ever. Blue is alright, green blows and I haven't heard either of the other two but that Beverly Hills song is the worst thing I've heard since John Fogerty's Eye of the Zombie (I realize that's a little obscure even for people that post here).
