absolute best-case scenario: every piece of hardware combined totaled about 500k for the month. for the entire month of april, the industry sold about 500k systems. that's including xbox 360, ps3, 3ds, ds, wii, wii u, psp, vita, and ps2.

i shouldn't have let jeff roll that die.

I heard dev kits were not finished.

Any comparison to other consoles in the same time frame?

Edit: On the plus side NIntendo can go only up from here with any important release.

Well, it certainly should be ahead of systems like the Saturn and Turbografx/PC Engine CD... certainly destroys the US Turbo/PCE CD, that sold like maybe 100,000 total (CD+Duo combined). Saturn only sold 9.5 million worldwide, maybe 2 million in the US total, so its sales were slow too. On that note, Sega went from 20-something million Genesises in the US, to 2 million Saturns. You can have a massive collapse.

You also see that in Atari, going from the 7800 (which actually sold okay) to the disappointing Lynx and very badly selling Jaguar. And as for the 3DO and Jaguar, the 3DO sold a couple million max worldwide, while the Jaguar sold 250,000 total, about half of those on clearance after it was discontinued. The Jaguar CD probably sold only one shipment of 20,000.

For a more positive situation though, it took a couple of years before the Genesis started selling well. Sure, in 1989-1990 in the US the Genesis beat the other new system, the TG16 (even though the TG16 had better games), no question, but its sales weren't great, not until Sonic in 1991 (EA Sports was 1991 too, but Sonic was the initial hit of course.).

However, every generation, of course, has sold more total systems than the one before, so just comparing raw numbers isn't entirely helpful, because of how that leaves out that the market is larger now than it was then.

Pikmin 3 will not be a big reversal of Wii U's fortunes. The Wii U is already doing much worse than the Gamecube so comparisons to that are not great.

the last story did almost twice that, which was a pretty damn good opening. i imagine pandora's tower was a nice success for them as well.

had nintendo been timely with the releases in 2011, and marketed them themselves, those games each could have done way better. might have helped keep people invested in the wii, too.

That's good to hear, though I didn't get Pandora's Tower due to negative impressions.

I'm so confused.

It's simple

100K>50K

The percentage in MS PR is include WiiU.

360>ps3>100k>50k>Wii>40k>WiiU>30k

Operation Rainfall ~ 20k

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN Please..someone..anyone..tell me how the heck Nintendo is going to meet their forecasts for the wiiu hardware? I mean god damn..Pachter was 'very optimistic" about the wiiu numbers then...lol think about that for a second

and LOL vita. I LOVE the system..so good. But what a disaster of a number that is....it needs a relaunch. More games, better price, better priced mem cards and potentially with a new version of vita (to cut costs if possible)

So basically the Vita needs a relaunch haha!

I honestly don't see how new consoles are supposedly going to fix everything.

Vita is dead in America, not much point arguing over it now. Indeed, every console seems to be at best recording a shit number (PS360 + DS + 3DS, presumably) and at worst posting indications of death (everything else except perhaps the original Wii)

Considering the Wii U had, what, one retail game released for it during the entire month of April, those hardware numbers aren't surprising at all.

I think we should start a pool for who misses their forecasts by more. 9 million for Wii U or 5 for PSP+Vita. I'm going with Wii U just because of how big that number is they could miss it by 4 million and and all Vita has to do is ship 1 million WW.

Edit: Once Vita is sub 10k stores aren't carrying it anymore. Complete waste of space.

Capcom looks to be in a horrible situation along with Nintendo. Capcom investing so much in Dogma and refusing to admit its failings seems bizarre as well.

Vita is dead.

WiiU > SS, of course.
Vita < 20k

I believe it. Until Sony does something with the retailers, they will continue to not stock the vita. Sad, and pitiful all the way around. I should be able to buy a vita at a brick and mortar store... Not just a fucking online retailer.

They'll stock Vitas; they just won't order new ones, since the ones they have are rotting and have been rotting for months. Our store still has First Edition Bundles, for pity's sake.

DDDA: both version < 30k

How much longer can Capcom keep pretending to investors that this IP is a success? Guess until Deep Down bombs outside Japan, at least.

WiiU > SS, of course.
Vita < 20k

Good god. Wii U's number is more newsworthy, and represents a bigger relative failure given that the platform holder in question actually gives a damn about it, but... with numbers like that, I don't know why SCEA bothered hiring a new Vita PR person. I don't know if combined November/December sales will even break 250K, given how few retailers will be ordering.
