Pikmin 9 months after release, the first noteworthy Nintendo game after launching the Wii U. You'd think Nintendo with decades of experience would have better planning.

Man, this month's hardware sales were absolutely stunning! Bravo, bravo! Man, the suspense is so thick you can cut it with a k

Does the average consumer even know about the Durango announcement being so close?

A week ago I overheard a couple guys on the bus talking about the PS4 and "720".

...Long story short, even though it's very little anecdotal evidence I'm going with "No."

The big publishers will be just as worried. If the upcoming next gen consoles bomb, those mega expensive AAA next gen game will become financial disasters that could take down most of the industry.
That is already happening somewhat TBQH.
This reason more than any other is that we will see NO NEXT-GEN EXCLUSIVE THIRD-PARTY TITLES with a budget of any kind (i.e. AAA) any time before the year 2015.
Which means more current gen rehashes with up-resed graphics and none of that new IP goodness we've come to expect from generational shifts outside of indies and first-party funded/developed titles.

Admittedly, with Wii, you started with the piece of software that lit the universe on fire and a Zelda that was hyped to hell and back as "da bess". We would also be going into the E3 that solidified more info on Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy.

Wii U has nothing on that former tier and from what's been talked about/shown maybe X to brag about/get people excited in the same way that Zelda did. At the same time, they're first to the party and looming in the wings are a much more hungry, focused, and gamer friendly Sony and a soon to be revealed new Microsoft console.

Good points also. It's not going to get better for them.

What causes some numbers to be released and others have to be waited for?

We've got any numbers that we're going to get officially, and leaks or analyst comments will be our only clues from here on out.

If hardware sales are bad-- which they definitely are for April-- companies will keep those numbers hidden in many cases so as not to cause negative publicity or poorer outlooks for their business.

Stuff I'm hearing off the record is all bad. Nobody expected a tank job like this. Nobody.

During the next several months, a cavalcade of fan-favorite franchises will launch for Wii U. This includes Game & Wario™ on June 23, Pikmin™ 3 on Aug. 4, Disney’s Planes from Disney Interactive on Aug. 6 and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Blacklist™ from Ubisoft on Aug. 20.

Jesus, the summer will be brutal.

Man, The Lego City games have been complete failures.

sub 100k is NOT good, especially when NEW IPs on 360 and PS3 can sell 1 million+ within the first month.

Nintendo needs to learn how to sell new IPs, but Sony and MS run circles around them in this department. Lego City is a bust and wasted time on Nintendo's part.

Waiting for those Wii U numbers...if it's under 40k...oooh boy. GAF is gonna have a field day.

"Hey man, we have this AWESOME Unprecedented Partnership™, everyone take five for a bit. Those launch titles can wait. I mean what could happen now?"

What causes some numbers to be released and others have to be waited for?

Considering the trend for the past couple of months, we will get more unofficial numbers this month.

We've had a really good track record for leaks and analyst reports recently...hopefully that'll keep up.

Honest question: when was the last time a new IP from Sony and MS sold a million in one month?

Thanks.

So yeah, no SoulSac.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
What if all next gen consoles do as badly as the Wii U?

Both Lego City titles will have longgggg legs. Give them some time.

Following Ubisoft's trend of selling -1% on their software on Wii U, I go for a loop and say Nintendo sold -1 Wii Us this month.

Sony and MS specifically? I don't know. But Ubisoft, EA, and Activision have many notable titles on 360 and PS3 that sold more than a million in one month.

Has any Lego game even come close to 1mill first month?

They're usually evergreen titles that keep selling.

They won't. Third parties will make then succesful by sheer numbers of games. Not to mention that MS and Sony actually can handle the development of HD games so you should not have that long first party droughts either.

Since we are on the subject, I have a really bad feeling about this generation coming up, gaming-quality-wise and industry-wise. These numbers don't do anything to help.
