What does that mean? I'm sure it's no more "rife" than in any other culture.

Homosexuality is much less accepted in the islamic world than it is in the western world. I had to interview a homosexual muslim once, (I'm a journalism student) and finding one was a very difficult task, especially one who would do an interview for us.

ow...sorry, English is not my native language. I thought in Turkey there are more homosexuals than in the past, but this is because the islam isn't as strict over there anymore (in th ebigger cities anyway). So the sudden 'increase' over there may have caused the writer of the aritcle to call it rife in the whole arabic world or something.
Still I don't think that's very accurate.

I was working in a warehouse over a summer once and this group of iraqis joined. I swear one of them was this really swarthy, masculine guy and he got sacked for apparently trying to kiss and grope another worker (who was straight). I was totally shocked because it seemed like something out of the movie american beauty since the guy was the last person you would suspect of being gay if going off stereotypes.
Also you don't really imagine people from the middle east being gay what with the religion being so against it. I was mentioning the incident to someone else and he said that arabs are kind of notorious for it which came as a surprise to me.
