ARC Raiders has performed considerably better than Embark Studios / Nexon forecasted...

In a post-Fortnite market, I think third-person games tend to have a better shot at success in live service. It's not foolproof - see Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Foamstars and Babylon's Fall. In a genre that leans heavily on cosmetics, it absolutely makes sense.

The fact that people are still duped with these fake stats and total bullshit is just sad.

Youtube views, seriously?

The only thing that matters is SALES. You can't feed your family on "interest" or "engagement" FFS.

It was a tech test. A closed beta, if you will. And these are designed for feedback as well as marketing.
Why would YouTube views not be important as an indicator of marketing reach?

How are they supposed to report sales in an earnings call for an unreleased game that doesn't have a release date yet and isn't even on preorder at the moment?

It's also a basic-ass form of marketing to publish engagement statistics, as it acts as social proof and drives awareness and consideration (the core objective of a team that doesn't yet have conversion opportunities). Letting the world know that lots of people are having a good time with the game, far more than the developer ever anticipated is a very positive, authentic news story that builds momentum for the title as they approach launch.
