Are Deepfakes and Voice cloning, the solution to Hollywood rehashing films?

Everything these day is a shit remake, and everyone moans its not like the original

Well why not deepfake the actors in!
de-aging is the new hype in Hollywood, but it always looks awful, whereas deepfake can look far less uncanny Valley

For example

Now thats just some youtuber doing a free ai deepfake program, now imagine just a little Disney money to fit perfect, and thats gotta be quicker and cheaper...and potentially look more convincing

Vocal cloning has also gotten easier, that with someone doing a half decent impression on top

If theyre gonna make more start wars or whatever, at this point I'd rather watch characters i care about on screen, but as above, than shit remakes

Wouldn't u rather a classic looking indy, Ford could of still done the voice and some scenes, the rest is a body double with classic looking indy face.

Well I would anyway

Just a thought

funny enough I was just having a talk with my wife, she wants a Twilight remake, but she wants the guy who played Edward to stay the same. I told her I'm sure they'll remake it and I'm sure they'll find another heart throb, and she said "why cant they just do those deep fake things and keep him in it?".

So yeah, I can see it popular, at least for vampire smut films.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I agree with this too. Today’s stars don’t appeal to me. I would rather see Stallone, Jackie Chan and Schwarzenegger in new action movies using CGI than anything starring the current crop of action movie actors.

Look at Hatsune Miku - Hollywood will be doing basically the same thing soon. There will be completely artificial actors in 5 years.

Grounds for divorce surely?

So you'd say no to a new buffy in 10 years with this very technique for a young buffy? Or even a new Angel, I mean he is a vampire after all, and shouldn't age

The show that's already made is what interests me

I don't need a remake or a reboot when that already exists. Dated effects etc add to the charm

So I'd check it out, but largely indifferent

One day it will be add on content. You will even be able to have friends over - all upload your selfies and be resevior dogs.

They still gotta work out the eyes..most deepfakes and even the professional ones never nail where the eyes should be looking or make them too white

It's going to be interesting when deepfakes are completely unnoticeable. There's usually hints here and there that places it in uncanny valley for split second that breaks the immersion.

But once that is smoothed out you will have deepfake licensing and it'll be so prevalent that it will make it difficult for newer stars to break into the industry as they'll be competing with deepfake licensing prices. It'll be funny to see media that lists "Leonardo DiCaprio (Actual)", and what happens if a movie that used deepfake ended up winning the Oscars? Would they segregate that into its own category at that point? Would it be hushed reasoning for deepfake movie to never win one? Would the deepfake rig/impersonator be awarded in helping bring the character to life? Interesting times ahead.

"Solution" is one way of looking at it.

When this tech gets perfected it will be the holy grail of the JJ Abrams school of creatively bankrupt storytelling.

My greatgrandchildren are going to go to the VR cinema to watch deepfake Mark Hamil playing Luke coming back from the death for the 30th time to fight Palpatine in a whole new movie including exciting concepts like a Droid carrying important information, a cantina scene, a planet destroying weapon, an evil not-empire that just like the empire and a masked evil Skywalker who turns good in the end.

Okay, what I'd like to know is how does the voice bit work? I can understand CGI de-aging and deepfakes but how does voice cloning work? Any good examples?

No clue if it exists.

At the end of the day your voice is nothing but a mix of complicated sounds that interweave with each other that form your voice. I could see voice changers happening in the future that can mimic any movie star alive and death. Its probably going to be one of the future hot things even for gaming. But specially for movies.

I could see company's that make movies copyright looks of there cast + voices not far into the future for this solution. they can just hire whoever they want and get the content going. The actor could very well not even have to show up anymore. Or u can get movies with diseased actors.

It'll only be a solution when you have AIs generating TV/movies tailored to your specific tastes. I have no doubt AI will be able to deliver proper Star Wars sequels or whatever down the road for me, I'm just not convinced it will have any interest in doing so before going full Skynet on our asses.

Well, like, why not? But like none of the fakes in Rogue 1 looked right..

Because they're not deep fakes in rogue one, just shitty cgi

Again remember, these deepfakes are using a free software to do them, not a Hollywood budget

sold! funnily enough it was the link at the end of that video to the han solo a star wars story deepfake that got me :p faaantastic!

After remaking movies, creatively bankrupt Hollywood is going to remake actors.
Besides, virtual characters are easier to manage, have no own rights or opinions and don't cost money.

Deep fakes are gonna be the end of us in 5 years. Forget twitter #metoo movements, peoples faces will be posted on all sorts of shit they never did which is actually scary.

Innovation is still happening just in other more flexible forms of media like video games and comics.

Hollywood is low risk entertainment and that's fine. Obviously there is demand for that.
