Are developers able to "skin" the Xbox360 dashboard when ingame?

Something I was thinking about when I watched that video of Kameo from that German conference or whatever it was. They showed going into the dashboard GUI and choosing a new song for the customizable soundtrack option.

Now, aside from my misgivings about requiring customizable soundtracks in EVERYTHING, and the fact that Kameo lost any kind of coolness the minute they started the "Jump" remix, I really disliked how the dashboard was just completely different from the "feel" of the game itself. It would be nice if games could provide their own skins for the dashboard, so that when you open it from inside the game it somewhat continues the mood of the game instead of being thrown into the chrome, futuristic look of the dashboard when you're playing some fantasy-based RPG. Is this an option? Is this a . . . choice?

If you choose to pay $5 for the skin, then choose to activate it before you load up the game then yes.

PDZ special edition comes with a free skin, which naturally leads everyone to believe that they wont normally be free.

Requiring soundtracks in everything? You realize this is an OS feature, not a game one. It's up to the gamer to decide what to use. I can't conceive why would anyone find this to be a bad thing.

As for skins, yes, it is supposedly customizable. As a matter of fact, PD Zero's Limited Edition includes a PD Zero skin (http://www.dwl.xbox-scene.com/pictures/x360-brochure-xs/page10-11.jpg .)

I hope the PDZ skin is blue/black like those wierd patterns in the background of every bit of promotional stuff they do..that would make a nice alternative to the chrome imo.

OK, thanks guys. I think making the skins a "micro-transaction" would be pretty ridiculous on MS's (or the publisher's part), as it should be considered part of the game experience.
