Long story short, I know someone who needs a generic of a medication that was recently available (Avodart, to be specific). However, the prices from local pharmacies are still prohibitively high. Does anyone here have any experience ordering from online pharmacies or are they all pretty much scams that involve computer viruses/fake medication?

Before it became generic, I used to order my Effexor XR from a Canandian drug store. It was legit, and way cheaper.

I'd be leery of 3rd world companies, though. If you go that route, check credentials. Some are good, some are snake oil.

According to my local news, 96% of them are scams and going to kill you.

I've used united pharmacies UK. Website looks crap but I know their drugs work correctly. Their owner has an arrest warrant in his home country for selling prescribed drugs without licence so moved to HK. Haha
