I got a Airport express wireless router for christmas but hardly used it, but with the PSP just released WiFi is the only way to go online with it.

I googled it and learned it uses High frequency radio technology and uses the wireless router to comunicate with the computer in binary. I couldn't find out anything about side effects

So GAF'ers are there any potentinal dangers from using WiFi, like does it increase the risk of cancer and tumors?

After close to two weeks of continuous exposure, your brain can no longer tolerate the disruptions in the electrical field and will slowly begin to cease functioning. Your skin will begin to peel after three weeks, and continued exposure will cause the skin to spontaniously combust a few days later. If you survive that, you will also suffer dryness of the mouth and cancer, most likely of the kidney, but cancer of the prostate is not unheard of. Also, the penis growth is temporary.

Other than that, Wifi is fine.

Look for side effects of cordless phones. Its the same thing(2.4 GHz frequency) and there should be more info on it, In fact it should have less effects since you don't put the wireless router next to your head.

Edit: You should by 2.4 GHz phones though as they can cause interference with the wifi.

What are the side effects of using wireless LAN 2.4GHz, and how can we protect our bodies from these high frequency signals? QUESTION POSED ON: 12 MAY 2004
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Retired Expert - Graham _Robinson No-one really knows the long term side effects of radiation as it depends on a number of factors such as;

Signal Strength
Frequenct
Genetic Predispoition to Cancer, etc

However, what you can be certain of is the power output or the EIRP (effective isotropic radiated power) that the access points are able to generate. The FCC and such bodies place very strict limits on what power they are able to generate (taking into account how close we operate from the devices) and you'll find that most access points only output about 200-400mW EIRP.

When you compare this to the 8Watts (or so) that some mobile phones are capable of, and that fact that we hold them directly next to our head, I am far more concerned about the cellular phone radiation than I am about my 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN.

The best way to prevent radiation from being absorbed by your body is to live deep underground in some remote part of the world. The truth is that we're exposed to all manner of radiation from many different sources -- televisions, portable phones, microwaves, cellular phones, cellular phone towers, computers, etc. The list is endless.

I've worked with a variety of wireless equipment for a number of years and I can honestly say I'm not worried about the radiation from a wireless access point or wireless client card – cellular phones? They're another story

The guy doesn't seem to be to worried about wireless LAN, although I never heard of the site I'll take it with a grain of salt.
