Are Yo La Tengo any good?

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I have one of their albums....somwhere....lost it....can't remember what they're like. Anyway, they're playing live at the campus Union this wednesday for free, and I was wondering if they're worth going to see, cuz I might schedule something else for that night, but I dunno.

If you can see them for free...why not go?

I think they are pretty good, but they won't ever be one of my favorites. Nice changeup music to put in a mix, though.

Slightly better than Guided by Voices, but still the very definition of generic indie rock. For free, you could do a lot worse.

Shit! Demon, are you going to the U of Michigan? I am, and they're playing at the campus Union on Wednesday for free too, so unless they're playing two shows at the same time, we must be in the same place...:p

EDIT: Sorry. I just checked, and it turns out they're playing tomorrow here. You must be in Madison then, correct?

Yup, Madison. I saw it posted on a bulletin board in the union and it took me by surprise, as usually I've never even heard of the bands that play there, let alone during the week.

Thanks everyone. I suppose I'll check them out. I'm just not really into seeing bands live unless I know they're good, or if there's some other incentive to go.

I would say it the other way around, but not by much. Yo La Tengo and GbV are pretty damn close, and pretty damn generic... but it's still Yo La Tengo > GbV.

Yo La Tengo puts on a great show. Go see it (especially if it's free). I'm going to see them early next month for the second time.

Electr-O-Pura and I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One as brilliant albums. I don't find them generic in any way unless by generic you mean subdued.

Seriously. You've got fucking "Tom Courtenay", "Moby Octopad", and "You Can Have it All" from the same band. Don't tell me those songs sound anything alike.
