Are you ready for some GI scores?? (Killer 7...)

Brandon F

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Just got the new issue, mostly hoping someone can dash my worries about the Flipnic numbers...

-Destroy All Humans 8; 8.25
-Killer 7 7.5; 8
-Juiced 7.5; 7
-Episode 3 5.75; 6.5
-Medal of Honor 7.75; 7.25
-Flipnic 6; 6.5 (Usual GI bullshit??)
-Colosseum 7.25; 7.75
-Samurai Western 6; 5
-RotK X 7.5
-FMA2 6
-Arc 5 5.5; 5
-Konga 2 7; 7
-Advent Rising 7.75; 7.5
-Guild Wars 8.75; 8.5
-Dungeon lords 4; 5
-Trackmania Sunrise 7.25; 7
-Fire Emblem 2 9;8 (GotM)
-MVP PSP 7
-Episode 3 DS 4
-Pokemon Emerald 7.75
-NBA Street PSP 7; 6.75
-HSG:OT 9; 8.5 (Weird it lost GotM to FE with .5 higher score)

I don't understand GI scores at all. They'll spend time ripping on a game (Medal of Honor European Assault) for the entire review and then give it a 7.75. I'm like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? I like their exclusive stories but their reviews are confusing.

"Game sucks. Low replay incentive. 7.25"

"Game sucks. Low replay incentive. High monetary gifts. 7.25"

Now you know?

I predict alot of mixed reviews for Killer 7. It's certainly not everyones cup of tea but some will like it for sure.

other killer 7 scores.

8/10 - OPM UK
36/40 - Famitsu
9.7/10 - Hyper PS2 (jap mag)
8.5/10 - Nintendo Power

It's a simple/bareboned kind of game in terms of production values. I don't think any video game publication or pro website on the planet gives high scores to games without high production values.

I think those scores for HSG are a little high. Its a fun game but a 7-8 at most or a 6-7 if 5 means average.

Some good Killer 7 scores but I'm still waiting for a $20 price tag. A $20 says that it'll be there by September; kind of like how Viewtiful Joe 2 went dirt cheap in a couple of months.

"Killer 7 is a MUST BUY imo. Can't wait to play a game that isn't some derived crock of generi shit"

Yes, but i personally think it's akin to having some random gorilla dropping its fat hairy nutsack onto your eyes whilst you are asleep ....

you'll be pleasently interested at first, but the horror will soon set in...

"ooo- THIS has never happened to me before, wow - it's definitely different... but you know what, i'm not sure i like it that much.... and man... the stench is terrible... "

Got it, anything below 8 is mediocore crap. Stupid ass scores :P

Why isn't Edge the benchmark for all gaming reviews, at least they know how to use other numbers besides 7's and 8's.

I think their reviews are much better lately. The text for Killer 7 was pretty interesting and confirms what many have said. Really interesting and different, not that great of gameplay and stupid puzzles.

I'm still looking forward to it.

I really want to play Gun, but I like Westerns. I also want the Koei gladiator game they reviewed.

Um, have you played Killer 7 yet?

He's basing his assumptions off of somebody that has played it "Bebpo"

He apparently liked it quite a bit. I believe saying "almost/equivalent" to the 36/40 Famitsu gave it. Given, there is only so much weight you can give to a Famitsu review, but a high score is a high score...I guess. The 8.5 from NintendoPower probably bodes a little better for people here.

-Juiced 7.5; 7
-Trackmania Sunrise 7.25; 7

Oh my fuck. Kill it. Kill it with fire.

Trackmania Sunrise is possibly the greatest racing game ever made.

...And I'm talking about the demo.

"Game sucks. Low replay incentive. 7.25"
And coming the other way around, with Romance of the Three Kingdoms X...

"Game is great. Great replay value. No 3D. Limited appeal. 7.5"

I have exactly 3 copies of GI in my library from last 3 years, all June issues. Yes, that's right, they were free copies from E3 floor.

Actually paying for this crappy rag is beyond fathomable, IMO.

Are you that desperate for something different to play?

:lol @ Flipnic scores. I'd love to hear their reasoning. Maybe it wasn't the pinball game for THEM.

;_;

On a side note I think those are fair scores for the game. They don't scream "boo this sucks", and they aren't like "OMFG this rocks"; They just say the game is solid and that certain people will enjoy it.

The Flipnic complaints could validate the score. Basically they talk of how the first table is amazing, yet the other three don't match in quality. They also felt underwhelmed by the presentation and the focus on 'missions' instead of points undermines the concept. Apparently some of the missions can feel really frustrating to complete thanks to wonky mechanics/controls ruining all the fun.

It sorta sounds like Mario Pinball PS2 :( , I really want a few more opinions given how awesome the E3 trailer looked.

3/10 gamereactor (one of swedens larger magazines)

they thought it was shallow and pretentious..

after playing the jap version a bit it is hardly a great game, rather interesting because it is different

Underwhelmed by the presentation? What does it take to impress them then? The focus on missions IS the concept, however I'll grant them the gripe about the first table (which is amazing). Yes they are frustrating but they're not impossible, you just have to learn the tables. Stop thinking of it as a pinball game and it becomes clearer, and it doesn't deserve to be associated with Mario Pinball.

Dramaqueen.

Its by capcom... it can't be that bad.

What DCharlie said isn't too far off. The game is nice to look at and not much else. And after a while, its simplicity starts to offend you.

Though it didn't ruin the fun for me, that's most people's gripe with Flipnic: the videogame elements quickly overwhelm the 'straight' pinball aspects (although if you're good at pinball you'll still be able to pull off some neat trick shots), which is odd considering the whole game is intended as one big I LOVE YOU to old-school pinball. Like pilon says, though, if you take it less as a pinball game - kind of difficult with that 'Ultimate Pinball' label Capcom US have slapped on it, I guess - you get more out of it.

I didn't feel that the later tables weren't up to par with the first, although they're certainly smaller and less intricate. But Optics is so far and away the best thing to grace a TV screen this generation that I don't much mind.

And as much as I hate to deflect possible Western sales of a game I love, if you're interested in the title and can play the Japanese version, it's worth tracking a copy down for the sleeve and manual artwork. And the hot pink disc.

If Flipnic's got low production values, I can't wait to see a game with high ones.

"Its by capcom... it can't be that bad."

I'm as big a capcom wh0re as there is around here! I've whored Monster Hunter like it was the Last Minge between here and the bar at the end of the UNIVERSE.

I've also been going on and on and on about how excited i was about K7, so you can either take my warning (RENT) or ignore it - it's your money.

"Dramaqueen."

meh, well, i just want people to not take your advice of it being a MUST BUY when you haven't fucking played it yet!

Played the japanese version for a few days now at a friends place and the game do get BETTER with progression. It's a lil confusing, but I love some of the bossbattles. Everyone is different. I think it's a great game.

I'd imagine the GBA one.

Thank you.

Can anybody confirm the following rumor?

From Snipes1001/IGN

This was in the latest Game Informer magazine, and although I don't have a link, I've seen numerous people at various sites confirm it.

"Carmack was one of the first to tell sony that he wanted to make ps3 games. He was impressed of what he could do on the development kit. Right now the id team is working on new ideas for the system.

id will still continue to work on games for the PC though. Most likely an FPS. Carmack is known for raising the FPS genre to where it is today, and for delivering the best looking games. We might see another doom or quake game on the Playstation 3."

Ok, I just read the Burnout Legends PSP preview snippet and in it a short mention of a next gen Burnout 4 being shown backstage at E3! This is the first time I've heard of this! Spill it!!!! :D

What is Fire Emblem 2?

GBA Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones or
GC Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance?

FE2 as in the 2nd Fire Emblem released outside of Japan. So yea it is the GBA one. :)
Pretty good game at that.

Isn't a 7.0 in these mags suppose to mean "good" and since when did "good" mean average?
Yeah no matter what the numbers say next to them a 5 is not average for most media outlets. Anything below 7 is a bad game. 7 is usually average.

EDGE is probably the only place I can think of that is even close to the whole "5 is average thing."
