Arkane Financials: Marvel's Blade Entered Production End of 2024, Estimated Release Date Nov 2027, Arkane has 190 Employees

I can't believe they've got Arkane doing shit like this in the first place..

Some real brain donors became in charge somewhere along the line.
I dunno, their stuff has always been (mostly) great but sold like shit ,maybe slapping a licence on their next game might give them the extra exposure they need?

"Let's grab the studio famous for making critically acclaimed and fan favourite immersive first person sims and first have them make a GaaS co-op looter shooter and then a third person action game"

Another 4D chess galaxy brain move from the strategic masterminds at Microsoft. Just an endless series of amazing business decisions.

"You know that thing you are very well-known for and apparently very good at? I *hate* it. Do what everyone else is doing instead". - A game executive at Bethesda/Microsoft, probably.

These guys can tackle third person I am sure, I don't think they would do this otherwise if couldn't.

Give me some great decent hack and slash stylish combat with a kick ass soundtrack (I imagine they'll have some French hip hop/rap esque style jamming dynamic music along with other genres) and I will love it.

I'm expecting a Witcher 3 type game in a Paris setting with main missions and side missions. We will see if they can do great combat, but the Witcher 3 didn't have great combat and people ate that shit up.

Likely if they made another sales dud then they are on the chopping block. Lets face it they never set the charts on fire regardless of how good a game they make.

I thought it made sense to basically make Dishonored but with a Blade skin but apparently this is not that.

Not why I'm asking. I typically don't give a shit about a game until a few months out from release, and no one even knows what this game is, so nothing to be impatient about yet.

What I mean is - why announce this game before it's even in production? We saw what happened with 60% of the games Xbox announced years ago. Either unreleased yet, or cancelled.

It makes no sense - if you know development is going to be another 4-5 years, to say anything publicly about the game unless you're trying to raise money for the studio - which they wouldn't be at that point.

They may be trying to replicate what they did with Deathloop - for better or worse. That was only around 3 years as well.

The last licensed game any Bethesda studio announced was Indiana Jones. They delivered.

Maybe they read your posts shitting on their last critically acclaimed first person sim and decided to pivot.

Would prefer if they manage budgets instead of changing genres.

Still, haven't seen the game. Maybe they will figure out something.

This is not the own you think it is. In fact it is quite disingenuous and you know that.

Dishonored and Prey obviously are their greatest achievements. Deathloop is not an immersive sim and in fact the first sign that they were going off the rails.

Deathloop is widely regarded as an immersive sim. It fully fits the bill for 'critically acclaimed' too.

I missed this out from my initial reply, but when did Arkane Lyon make a 'GaaS looter shooter'?

Pretty damn sure Deathloop has im sim elements.

You have the freedom to navigate anywhere with your powers. Do as you see fit.

Am playing TOTK currently.

Building stuff is tedious cause I can't see angles I am attaching stuff together, or where.

Games with sim elements should be first person.

Sure, it will mess up combat, they may not be able to figure it out. Or will have to put builds a la Skyrim to make it good. But personally I can work with that.

Why announce it a year before starting on it?

It was in pre-production before, they didn't just begin concepting the project in 2024.

Deathloop and Redfall were in production well before MS acquired Zenimax.

I think this game has a very low chance of coming out.

I dunno, their stuff has always been (mostly) great but sold like shit ,maybe slapping a licence on their next game might give them the extra exposure they need?
Well they also have to pay licensing fees to Marvel and I don't think a company like Arkane has any place in future MS.

This game will have to come out because they paid for the marvel license. I doubt marvel would take too kindly to someone fucking up with their license nowadays in terms of the gaming side of things. So idk why people think this game won't release.

Idiotic to announce a game before it starts proper production. Guess they needed to fill a time-slot. 🙄

Would personally prefer it if they made their own characters/world. But on the other hand I do love myself some Blade. Hope it doesn't get struck with the Marvel curse.

i knew they canned a disney game.

Wait they're just getting started with this game?

No, the game has gone through the prototype, concept etc phase. Which means they've got the game structure, mechanics, story etc finalized, now they're gonna do full production on it which takes 2, 3 years. They've given an estimated Nov 2027 release date in the report, it could get delayed (or even brought up early like how Outer Worlds 2 was). There's still a long time to go though.

That's not a guarantee. Just look at how Electronic Arts cancelled Amy Hennig and Visceral Games' Star Wars game, which by all accounts was shaping up to be a masterpiece; then the online, open-world looter-shooter in development at EA Vancourver which was meant to recycle the mechanics and assets from Visceral's game; a Star Wars: Battlefront spin-off from a coalition of studios, including Criterion, that was planned for the PS5 & Xbox Series launch; the singleplayer first-person shooter about a Mandalorian bounty hunter in development at Respawn Entertainment; and finally, the very systemic, open-world, branching-narrative Black Panther game that had been in the works at EA's own Cliffhanger Games, the studio founded by the creators of the Middle-Earth games and the Nemesis System.

These companies don't give a shit.

Between GOATs like Dishonored 2 and Prey underperforming, a mid game like Deathloop, trash like Redfall, and being owned by Microsoft, I'm legit worried about Arkanes future.

Blade better be peak. They need a win, and I don't want a Looking Glass 2.0.

1st person Blade would be awful. I hope they make it 3rd person and give us full badass sword action!
Agreed. 3rd>>>>>

I believe in Arkane, if they don't get management meddled up their wazoos, they can deliver another im sim banger...however poorly it sells.

Although if it's a flop, I will be hurt but hopeful if it means Arkane's final demise. MS will keep Arkane's IPs and dishonor and soil themselves by trying to make an im sim with a few of the core team, some more inside mercenaries and legions of mediocre contractors tweaking and unraveling all that AI code and textures into A PRODUCT, not A GAME, and fail to grab even one inch of what makes an immersive sim an immersive sim, while all the craft and skill at Arkane will spread and, hopefully like it happened with Looking Glass demise, we will get another evolution of FPS/im sims and lots of great games.

This could be Dishonored 3 in all but name.

I think it makes perfect sense for both the IP and studio. Hopefully they don't get canned beforehand.

They are probably working on 2 things because 190 people is a lot of people. Also, Deathloop came out in 2021 so they must have been doing something in 2022 and 2023 before Blade started properly in 2024.

My guess is they are working on Blade but also
working on Deathloop 2 or Dishonored 3 or perhaps some hybrid game that is both Deathloop 2 and Dishonored 3.

I wouldn't mind a Deathloop 2 with some aspects of it fixed.

Did you just block out the game they put out after death loop? 😂 Arkane Austin likely had help on this project called Redfall from the mothership.

It's likely why they got a marvel vampire IP lol.

I was skeptical of Deathloop until I played it and now it is my favorite Arkane game. It is almost the No One Lives Forever 3 game that we never got in 2004.
I enjoyed it.

One complaint I have is the final solution gets spelled out to player via map markers.

Wish they had left it upto player to figure out.

I feel they did a lot of play testing but couldn't achieve a good difficulty balance. So made it too easy.

the black panther game as well.

Yeah sure they helped but according to the credits there were only about 15-20 people from Arkane Lyon who helped on Redfall and not 190 people helping
