So if this only launches on Xbox Series, does that make this the first next gen only game for the Xbox Series?

Hopefully this was an earnest question and not a troll for Xbox LOLs...

No, ARMA Reforger is not the first Xbox Series-only game. Flight Sim, The Medium, and others previously only launched on Xbox Series, and a number of other smaller games have only released on or been announced for Series or Series/PS5/PC platforms. (Not that they're all "next-gen engines" that will blow everybody away with their next-gen'itude, per se, but if that's an important landmark to some people, it has happened before and is happening with increasing frequency.)

No, I didn't know. I have a One X, but since I got my PS5 I haven't really kept up on the Xbox side of things. I do want a Series X down the line, though.

PC will probably get a strong community as this is where ARMA's fanbase lives, GOOD LUCK on consoles though, the PC games are poorly optimized for eons, I can't imagine how badly optimized the console versions will be.
Feels like you have to completely brute force ARMA III even 10 years later. Not sure I wanna feel like my PC is twice is old as it actually is by playing this.

Arma 3 on my i7 6700k @ 4.6GHz and an RTX 3080 ran like caca. Now that I have an i5 12600k it runs above 60 fps all the time. I actually couldn't belive I could finally play Arma the way god intended when I first tested it with the new CPU.

Old ass i7 7000k can confirm it ran like caca. However that was the way it was... specially with a lot of mods.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Jesus, how bad will it be on Xbox One.

They’ve now added it to the store, there is a “free trial” and a price tag, not a surprise Gamepass game, RIP XBOX community.

Not on Xbox One. Nice try

Dat resolution tho, sheesh

Definitely sub 1080p. Maybe 900p or less.

Battlefield 4 in 2013 looked better than this.

Bohemia should get their shit together

Nah. I've played it for a while on Series S and it's at least 1080p, maybe a bit higher (or just overly sharpened). The uneven framerate is a problem though.

I've got a 3090 and ramped everything up to the max @ 4k barring one or two settings as otherwise I couldn't maintain 60fps. Agree with Apocryphon Apocryphon that the game looks like poop. They must have tried for ages to scrape together enough footage to get the showcase looking as good as it does.

It looks like the Arma 3 engine with a bump in visuals here and there. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement and I kept getting a connection error trying to play any multilayer game. I might see if I can get a Steam refund.

Isn't ARMA 3 considered to be a decent looking game even now though?

Downloaded and played this for an hour. There's no invert Y option in the menus so thank christ for Xbox.

Game runs like absolute dogshit. Game looks like absolute dogshit. Game plays like absolute dogshit. New engine my hole.
Yikes. Reviews on steam were only at mixed last time I checked too.

And big WTF at no invert Y option

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
It's been a long while since I tried that but I think on my aging PC it's much smoother than ARMA3 with high-ish settings, a constant 60+ in the tutorial (it's on a pretty huge map and takes you through all kinds of things including the shooting range, jeeps, trucks, building structures and what not, so other than seeing actual action with other players it should be fairly representative of the whole thing I imagine) except it does have the nowadays common stutter on every first load of everything (guessing it's much smoother on beast PCs). It looks pretty nice both indoors and outdoor to me. I do hope they implement AMD FSR2, it has 1 atm (and weirdly detached from the rendering scale setting). It feels a bit like Squad from what little I played of that so, much more streamlined than the average ARMA, but not quite as simple as some COD game either with the leaning and stances and freelook function outside your orientation and all that stuff and I guess all the strategy elements on top of the gunplay. I wonder what the draw distance of important elements really is in KM, I believe you could alter that in previous games' settings but needed it very high for obvious reasons.

God, this takes me back to playing with the mission editor of Operation flashpoint. I spent hours, days, week, months trying to understand the code for making missions, making videos of battles. God, I miss early pc gaming, with the game editors, making maps for empires dawn of the modern age, cossacks, age of mythology, etc. Great times.

Sure, I had the same experience with Flashpoint, but putting something out like this, even considering that it's Early Access is fucking disgusting. I'm glad there's a free 6 hour trial because I would still be annoyed at having to submit a refund request.

It's an embarrassing shitshow of BF 2042 proportions as far as I'm concerned. There is zero reason for the next ARMA experience to be released like this in 2022. No way this gains any traction at all on console. Surely?

On the road to Arma 4, Arma Reforger is a standalone early access game looking to hook a new generation of Arma players as it goes into Early Access on PC and Xbox.

Arma Reforger by Bohemia Interactive is a standalone Arma game going into Early Access while Arma 4 is in development. Reforger is intended to get the mil-sim community involved in testing out the new Enfusion engine, modding the game, coming up with fun combat scenarios, and fighting player vs. player. Reforger has two main multiplayer modes: Conflict, which sees two teams fighting over capture points, and Game Master, which lets players engage in and edit scenarios in real-time. The game also includes a Workshop that allows players to expand and modify the game. Mods can be used on both PC and, for the first time Xbox. Keep in mind the Arma Mod Day Z eventually led to PUBG and the modern battle royale craze.

Arma Reforger takes place in a large open world on the island of Everon, set in the 1980s. The island’s design is inspired by the former state of Czechoslovakia. You’ll see a lot of classic ’80s guns in the game, like the M16A2, M21 SWS, and M72A3 Law. The game builds off the Arma series roots that started in 2001 with Arma: Cold War Assault and helped define the military simulation genre.

Arma Reforger is part of the road to Arma 4 and is out now in Early Access for PC and Xbox.

I'm a big ARMA fan and I like what I saw playing this on XSX last night, but it shouldn't cost $30 right now. Once a ton more content fills in it would be worth that but not right now for people who are new to the series.

I really like how the game feels, not as much jank already but plenty of stuff that can be improved. Honestly just happily shocked because I wasn't sure we'd ever see any form of ARMA on consoles, or hell, anything like it.

What's the gameplay loop?

How does it compare to the recent Ghost Recon games?

It does a good job of bringing the ARMA feel for gunplay, slower tactical movement (while easing up on the base ARMA 3 fatigue mechanic), etc and the map looks great. Right now it's just very light in content (expected) and some early access jank. I think one of my big issues right now too is that on Xbox, invites don't work and you can't form a "party" in-game so it makes getting together more of a chore than it should be. I didn't get to play a whole lot but even with all the checkpoints to capture in conflict mode, it can still feel really sparse when it comes to enemies and without a radio to respawn it can get pretty tedious trying to stay with your group. Also hope transport choppers are coming soon. It's definitely more hardcore than the recent GR games. To the point where I hope they add some options you can toggle on/off if you want to scale it back a little. Mainly markers over friendlies/icon on the map showing your location. I like that stuff being off when playing missions but in a new game with lots of people on the same server it can get really tough especially just starting out and not being able to communicate with everyone.

Again, I'm really excited about its potential (and what it means for ARMA 4) and after some adjustments/additional content/mods it's going to be awesome.

Got a refund for this game. Couldn't join any server, and ArmA 3's complexity is completely overshadowed by the game also trying to be console friendly.

I've played it for over 70 minutes and also can't join any server but i didn't really noticed any big dumb downs honestly so far. I'm even surprised this is also on consoles.
Stances are there, so is lean left and right and free look and so on.

Arma 3 wasn't a bad looking game on it's release, but it wasn't near the top of the charts when it came to graphics even on it's release. It made some weird choices, like choosing to have bee's cast shadows....Which drastically affected performance. It's performance was it's biggest issue at launch and it's mostly fine now, it's a great sandbox.

If you just look at pictures or quick 30 sec. videos of Arma you are doing the game and yourself a massive disservice. Where games like CoD or Battlefield excel at fast-paced, arcade, gameplay, Arma excels at realism and a huge sense of scale. Not to mention Arma's incredible, INCREDIBLE mod community. Arma 2 was essentially the blueprint for the Battle Royale genre.

I look forward to seeing what's to come from Reforger. Once again, this game like it's predecessors will live and die by it's community and mods. Arma is a place to play with people that take the challenge of a large scale fight more seriously and less of the Dude-bro Commando type folks you'd get from Cod/Battlefield.

The bullshots they put out for these game always look a million times better than the game actually looks. ARMA 3 looked decent when it was released but ran like shit.

The issue with Reforger is that they talk up the new engine and how its laying the foundation for ARMA 4, but it still looks like a 10 year old game and still runs like shit, particularly on Series X. It's embarrassing.. and they want you to pay for the privilege of early access when it might as well be an ARMA 3 mod.

It's way more hard core than ghost recon.
Arma is more of a sim, die in 1 bullet and all that. Get shot in the legs? You have to cawl while you bleed out and get treated by a medic.
Probably too hardcore for 99% of cod players but who knows, Eldenring did well.

You are describing OG Ghost Recon from 2000 on PC but no revives. Get shot in the arm and your accuracy is trash. All those little things were in GR but were moved away from to appeal to a broader audience sadly.
