Arrange Albums for Chrono Trigger/Cross and Legend of Mana announced

Didn't realize this was an affair that included vocals.....could of been an instant purchase; but as it is it's a pass.

Marbule sounds great and is what I expected from the album. The vocal tracks are pretty iffy, and it's disappointing that once again Mitsuda isn't even doing most of the arrangements himself. :/

^

This is how I feel as well. The vocals tracks were really underwhelming. Especially Time's Scar and Radical Dreamers.

Marbule has a lot of potential and it sounds really good though!

I don't know what your guys are on about. This sounds amazing. To Far Away Times is especially glorious (and much better than OCReMix's Chrono Symphonic rendition).

The rest of the tracks better include The Dream That Time Dreams.

You guys are... really silly for not expecting vocals. Xenogears Creid was like 50% vocal. Some really cool choices with the vocalists. Alainn brings a very similar flair as Joanna Hogg did for the Xenogears/Xenosaga stuff.

Seeing Laura Shigihara on the credits makes me want to play Finding Paradise finally. I was introduced to her when I played To the Moon.

What is Zombies on Your Lawn (PvZ)

Marbule sounds great and is what I expected from the album. The vocal tracks are pretty iffy, and it's disappointing that once again Mitsuda isn't even doing most of the arrangements himself. :/

Miyano has been doing orchestrations for a lot of stuff. Her involvement isn't that big of a stretch of imagination.

Cool tidbit from the old Chrono Cross OST liner notes:

Yasunori Mitsuda said:
Marbule ~ Home

I composed this with medieval music in mind. Because ancient instruments have so many limitations, it was difficult to write this as if it could have been genuinely performed, but I wonder if it wouldn't be possible afterall...If I ever do an ancient music arranged album, I'd like to take a shot at it.

So this arrangement of Marbule was 16 years in the making...

At TGS 2015, Square Enix released a "music sampler" album which contains various tracks from recent SE products. One of the tracks is an orchestral arrangement of "A Narrow Space Between Dimensions" which is stated to be from the upcoming Chrono Trigger/Cross arrangement album.

So we now know the names of 6 of the tracks of the album (which has 10 tracks in total).

Samples for all ten tracks of the Chrono Trigger/Cross arrangement album are now on the website!

EDIT: scratch that, still works like butt...darn, hopefully it's running better later

On the website you have to keep the cursor in the page for the audio to stream. If you change tabs or change window focus it stops streaming.

The vocals are mostly miss for me. They're not objectively bad or anything and the vocalists themselves are great (I need more Laura Shigihara stuff now), but it's hard to suddenly accept lyrics for songs I grew up loving as instrumentals. I like Schala and Radical Dreamers out of the samples with vocals, but Radical Dreamers was a vocal track to begin with so that wasn't a big stretch. And of course the non-vocal samples are goddamn amazing.

This arrangement of The Bend of Time/A Narrow Space Between Dimensions/Dimension Break (whicever you prefer..) is actually the very first sample Mitsuda released from the CC arrange album back in december 2008. It was also included on the first Play for Japan album. Kind of interesting to see that at least some of these arrangements really do go way back. :P

Also, samples sound mostly great to me. I still wish it was Chrono Cross only, and I could do without Shigihara, but after years of waiting, I'm just happy something has finally materialized.

The Wind Scene arrangement sounds perfect. From the very beginning that just sounded right. Past orchestral arrangements from Mitsuda (like the CT DS Orchestra tracks) sounded like it was a bit superfluous, but it did make sense since they were part of one larger suite. This one sounds beautiful yet faithful to the original.

The Bend of Time arrangement is my favorite one so far.

Vocal tracks are kinda good but as someone mentioned, kinda unnecessary.

I'm a little iffy on some of the vocals myself, but I do like Laura Shigihara and Sarah Àlainn (and of course I like Mitsuda a lot) so I'll trust the talent they have behind this. I'd love to hear the songs in full and should be a nice alternative to the originals. I don't doubt that despite any reservations, I'll be singing the songs in the car on the way to work at some point. x)

Sounds nice, but I don't understand the need of vocals, or of not being just Chrono Cross arrangements...

There was a live stream earlier today of a few of the tracks; Wind Scene, Schala's Theme, and On the Other Side / Epilogue ~ To Good Friends. You can still can still watch the rebroadcast if you are a nicovideo premium member. Apparently they were live performances so sound different.

Oooh. Chrome told me "This file may harm your browsing experience, so Chrome has blocked it." Does it to that indiscriminately for RAR files? I just turned the feature off, and it only has three .mp3 files in it; I can't fathom how it determined those were too scary for the average user. Maybe too beautiful.

Dunno, maybe it was more because of Sendspace or something.

Anyway Square Enix just released another set of samples from the album on their YouTube channel:

I'm fucking crying, guys... The Chrono series was my whole childhood. This is so good.

I want to be excited for this. I'm a massive "Chrono" fan [maybe my username was a hint?], but I'm really not liking the abundance of vocal tracks. I don't mind one or two, but it seems like the majority of them are vocal, and I'd much prefer just the instrumental versions. I would jump on the purchase if they offered a separate instrumental version, but I know that won't be happening. I won't pick this up at release, but considering how big of a fan I am, I can see myself owning it eventually.

I guess a re-arranged, instrumental album [composed entirely by Mitsuda-san] of Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross will remain a distant dream of mine.

I feel horrible for not liking this. When I started to recognize an arragenemt I got flooded with various feels and emotions but then every time I heard a vocal track start my heart just sank.

Actually really bummed that Schala's Theme doesn't use those Arabic sounds at all. It was a really exotic theme and it's what made it my favourite character theme.

The vocals don't exactly help.

Some of you must have hated Creid, which was 50% vocal tracks...

Also I thought the original Schala's Theme had Indian sounds, not Arabic.

Got my copy via Amazon on release date and finally had a chance to hear the full album from beginning to end. And I gotta say.......

Its fuckkin beautiful yo. The album was a blast from start to finish. Wish it had a another disc but still happy with what was heard.

I don't mind vocals at all. I was just disappointed at Schala's theme since I heard Shigihara sing that a while ago on her YouTube.

I don't mind vocals in songs, it's just that I know the original versions so well that it's a bit jarring to suddenly hear someone sing during it. Nothing against their performances, they do a great job. I just wanted an all-instrumental/arranged album. It doesn't help that there's only ten tracks on the album, despite them being high-quality.

As I mentioned earlier, I'll probably own this eventually, since I'm such a fan of the series. It won't be for a while, though. This month is already destroying me with game releases. :/

Not a huge fan of the vocal tracks but I just listened to the sample of Bend of Time and it almost brought tears to my eyes. What a gorgeous arrangement. Definitely going to pick this CD up just for that, Marbule, and Wind Scene.

Does anyone in Japan know if they're selling this in brick and mortar stores?

Edit: Ah, it looks like they'll have it at Tower Records... I keep forgetting that the Japanese one is still alive.

I agree that I want instrumental versions of these songs too, with the melodies played by instrumentals, but the vocal ones are nice too. Still, yeah... I enjoy more instrumentals. I guess they think vocals are easier to sell? Japanese people like the english singers?

why in the WORLD would they not put that beautiful art on vinyl? i dont get it. they could put these tracks on limited vinyl run and charge $60 and sell a whole lot of copies, i'd imagine..

It will be available on vinyl, but exclusive to the Square Enix Japan online store. Please understand.
