I don't get this thread. Are you people thinking of previously recorded music that could be used in games or artists that could compose an entirely new, original video game soundtrack? Powerman 5000, RZA, TMBG? What...?

Oh well, I guess I'll be the odd man out and mention Hans Zimmer. :p

not a bad choice there!

Hans Zimmer knows music!

my vote for third place goes to Ennio Morricone.
i bet he could make some very nice tunes for RPG's and adventures.

Holy shit yes! Wouldn't surprise me if Kojima had already approached him to do music in the past.

oh, Tiesto aint shit.
worlds best dj? get the fuck outta here!

how about Richie Hawtin or Dave Clarke?
and how about all those other dj's out there who use turntables as instruments instead of just mixing records in the right BPM.
even i could out spin Tiesto, any day of the week.

People who sell records get the awards.
The real artists dont get the respect they deserve in the musical industry of today.

sorry to derail this thread slighty......

I worded the title poorly, but I guess the possibility exists for both. My examples focused more on existing music that you think could play a part in a videogame soundtrack... and I guess from that, you can decide if it's likely that they'll produce music along those same lines. I suppose that it's entirely dependent on the type of music they play and whether or not there's a consistency with your correlation to gamig music and their particular creative direction. It wouldn't be entirely innaccurate to say that since, for example, that if Aphex Twin produces music that meets some of your video game soundtrack criteria, that their future material would be likely to follow that same format -- or at the very least, that they'd have the potential to produce some great videogame music :)

I think that choosing tracks makes it a little easier to showcase an example -- plus, since I'm a nut for VGST's, it'd be great to see a few other ideas; perhaps it'll make a new fan of me or others who are curious about your selections. ^_^

If you don't believe me, listen to the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack and imagine Zelda in your head.

Let's start with some labels all music licensors should have in their Rolidex:

Warp, Plug Research, Big Dada, Ninja Tune, Merck, Stone's Throw, Mush, Lex, Bubble Core, Thrill Jockey, DFA, Def Jux.

Strangely enough, i've just learned that the music for The Getaway: Black Monday is an orignal score, remixed by Ninja Tune and Big Dada artist.

Cross two labels off the checklist.

I've always thought a racing game soundtrack by Zeke would be awesome.

Also, Ween could do some awesome stuff for a game if given the opportunity. I just know it!
