As a Black guy should I be using a Shaver or a Trimmer?

I've been shaving every day with a razor for the past three years and I can vouch for Bump Patrol Aftershave. It burns, and it stinks, but I haven't had a razor bump since I started using it.

this thread is fucked up

some shameful ass shit in here

wet shaving/safety razor for life

This is what I switched to after using the andis trimmer for a while.

So satisfying, but takes a lot more time.

And my skin feels smoother and I still don't get razer bumps (got them really bad on my face when I was a teen).

this shit right here, closest I get without reaching for the razor

Philips Aquatouch are all wet and dry, so I'd recommend using shaving cream and/or a shaving oil when you use it. Also put a hot towel in water and rest it where you're going to shave for about 20-30 seconds to soften your hair and open up your pores.

Y'all get a ton of bumps after shaving daily? I got lucky.

I have to shave daily to prevent the hairs from curling into the skin. But if I get a few bumps, I'll use a stiff short brush and bring them out. Like a clipper cleaner brush.

And it's usually when I use a razor for too long and it gets dull.

I've used a razor blade maybe 5 times in my life. Probably less than that actually. I'd get razor bumps every single time so I only use trimmers/clippers. I say abandon the blade.

Electric shavers are shit , they will still pull unless you get something nice, and i dunno what that is compared to a blade, get a blade , and shave with the flow/grain of your hair not against it, then you wont get the bumps.

With shaving cream and after shave?
Im in the same boat, doesn't matter how much I follow the golden rules of shaving with a blade I still get bumps. Everyones skin sensitivity/facial hair growth patterns can be different. I use a T-liner and get the perfect results I want, without having to deal with my curly facial hair tearing my skin up as its trying to grow back..

I have really sensitive skin too and used to get bodied by razor bumps when I first started shaving. Then I learned what shaving cream, after shave, and wet shaving are and now bumps are at a minimum. Another thing that has made a difference for me is having a skin care regimine which includes washing my face twice a day, using bha exfoliants (which acts as an after shave) and toners, and wearing facial lotion with sun screen properties. Can say all of this collectively has made a difference and I seldom get bumps.

My barber will use a shaver to give me a really low fade. The solution that I've discovered, I wash my hair daily with conditioner for the first few days. Apply whatever hair "dressing" of your choice and a bit of tea tree oil, while your hair/scalp is still damp.

With my beard, I was using a double edged razor.

A good facial cleaning regimen can absolutely make a world of difference.

I get bumps regardless.

keep practicing :P

I dunno getting some bumbps will happen ,if your beard or whatever gets really long hit it up with the clippers then do a good shave for a closer finish, after warm water or a hot towel you guys have sensitive faces awwwww. Good luck.

OH MY GOD ARE YOU USING A ROTARY

Rotaries fuck my shit up, they pull and THEN cut, getting a super close shave, so close that curly hair can grow at an angle into your skin

Use a Wahl Foil trimmer, I use one after trimming for the last few years because rotaries ruined my face. I've never even had to go to a lower foil head from 'super close', would recommend everytime

Ummm... No. I've tried razors and I know the result. Why would I keep using them? That's like the colloquial definition of insanity.

Our hair curls before it comes out of the thingie, this is why we get razor bumps/ingrown hair/irritation. Clippers cut it above the skin, so it doesn't get ingrown.

If your hair isn't super curly, you're ok using a razor. But Military Grade Negro hair is going to curl and get ingrown.
