13 Assassins is fucking badass.

Dude Ip Man Legend is Born is freakin aweome. The dude looks and fights like a younger Donnie Yen. True Legend has Zhao Wen Zao in it. He is a legend in fighting as well. Those are some great fighting movies. I have bangkok knockout and there is a fight scene in there that is the top 20 best on screen fights Ive ever seen.

Ip Man Legend is Born is a nice throwback to 90s martial arts cinema and much better than Ip Man 2. True Legend is shit. Haven't seen the rest.

I have just seen Cold Fish, awesome movie, don't know why but it reminded me a lot of OldBoy.

Saw it too and didn't really connect with me. Pacing was awful and the lenght of the movie didn't help the issue. And like usually with Sono towards the end everything gets bit ridiculous and more gory but the trademark didn't serve this film well. Based on a true story claim was kinda bullshit too since the similarties with the actual case were really stretched out and it was kinda disappointing. Only good thing to say is that Mitsuru Fukikoshi was awesome in this (as he was in Love Exposure).

Oh and sorry for lack of updates but my laptop got stolen and there went also the new layout for the op and I'm too lazy to start over. I will start updating again but won't add anything to op anymore.

Saw 13 assassins, pretty good film. Final battle was a good 45 minutes or so. I'd give it a 7 or 8. Also saw true legend. SPIoLER ALERT, I'd give it a 5 or 6, due to inept editing/directing, and also some fairly blatant plagiarism. Action scenes were very good though.

Just saw Ip Man - Legend is Born. Really enjoyed it. Good choreography, and some nice humor here and there. No apparent CG - that's worth some appreciation!.

Is there a release date for the North American release of Ip Man Legend is Born? The best I could find is Funimation's page that just says Decemeber 2011, but that doesn't say if it's dvd/blu or theatrical.

It looks way too much like The Matrix Revolutions.

On another note, I saw Wu Xia recently. Pretty enjoyable.

WKW won't let us down again after My Blueberry Nights, this will be good.

I just saw Cold Fish and it was terrible, shallow and gratuitous.

Oh wait, I just noticed. Why is The Grandmaster in Mandarin instead of Cantonese? Ahh, Best Chinese loses out again. :lol

Why would it be in cantonese ? Aren't most films/tv&radio shows in Mandarin in mainland ? Tho it will probably have audio for cantonese too.

Did you like Love Exposure?

Yes, I don't like Sono, but Love Exposure was a good movie, a little drawn-out at the end with the petty melodrama, but it was his best movie by far. Since I liked Love Exposure I had a lot of hope for Cold Fish, but it was a big disappointment, typical Sono's shallowness.

Just saw the trailer and that was the first thing I noticed. Every WKW film I have seen has Cantonese as its original dialogue (for most of the main characters at least :p). Is The Grandmaster made through a studio in Mainland China instead of his usual studio or something? I wish I could understand Mandarin. :/

PS: Best Chinese = Mandarin
(Cantonese sounds like swearing and has too many slangs in the daily vocabulary... Cantonese speaker here :p)

Well, the real Ip Man is from Canton anyway...

6 tones baby! Third tone sandhis are for cowards!

The Yellow Sea is awesome. I saw it at the NY Asian Film Festival. It felt fresh and full of ingenuity, it has an authentic setting and background, and it's full of some pretty damn brutal violence. I really really liked the gritty Joseonjeok (Chinese ethnic Korean) characters and locations. Plus it makes extensive use of visual, dialogue-less storytelling that manages to be fast paced and easy to follow. It's really exciting.

(There were no subtitles in the print they had to show at the festival, so the director himself prepared a PowerPoint presentation of the subtitles that they projected along with the movie. BADASS)

I'm a sucker for most Jet Li movies. The trailer looks like an amped up version of legend of the white snake. will definitely let my parents know. thanks for the trailer link

If anyone of you import:

A Bittersweet Life Blu-ray is being released at the end of the month.

Is it Region Free with English subs? LOVE that movie, I must have it.

I can't believe it never got a North American release on DVD.

Edit: The US remake is a go, isn't it? I wonder if that will finally push a North American DVD/Blu-ray release of it.

Edit 2: Woo, didn't realize Korea was also Region A. Import get! (If Eng subs are quality).

Coffee Book version

Normal Edition

Both have English subs. Korea and America are both Region A. So the import works here in the states.

Yesasia sold out and a few days later they opened it back up. So maybe they are printing more?

I can't wait. :3 criminal that this was never released stateside, now I am 1 step closer to getting rid of my old region free dvd player.

Wonder what quality the subs are? Engrish-y like a HK release or better?

All the Korean films I have imported have quality subs. It's sad that we never got a release here. Tartan going under really hurt the flow of Asian films to America.

Edit: You guys can also try and order the film from K2dvd.com. They are reliable, however, shipping takes a few weeks. This is where I usually import from.
