Aside from a game, system or hardware accessory, what makes a thoughtful gaming gift?

I've mentioned on this forum that my nephew is a huge Zelda fan, so I've made him an awesome CD with the best music from the series. Additionally, t-shirts, toys, tins, and other merchandise seem to work. I gave a friend of mine my Soul Calibur 2 art book last year for Christmas. A DVD based on the game would also work.

What similar gifts do/would you give?

Soundtracks are good, and you've got that covered. Posters are cool. Strategy guides probably aren't the best thing if he's a real, proud hardcore Zelda player, though I appreciate them myself...

He's 8. And though he has every Zelda game, actually completing them is a little beyond his attention span. But I bet he knows more about the first few sections than the most hardcore. :p

I'm not asking for Zelda suggestions. This is pretty much an open topic for gift-giving, though I appreciate the ideas.

Novel and comic tie-ins always make nice gifts as long as they're done well (ex.: the Nylund Halo novels, the Warcraft comic).

I have always been partial to gift vouchers. They can put it towards something more expensive or pick precisely what they want for that value. Plus, it saves them the effort of acting delighted after receiving something they didn't really want; unless, of course, they hate gift vouchers/cash(freaks, imo).
