A few days ago, the back of my mouth became slightly irritated but I thought nothing of it...until last night, when it started to become painful to swallow food.

I looked in the mirror, stuck my tongue out and was horrified to find that there were numerous swollen bumps on the back of my tongue. 0_o

I didn't want to go another day without getting this checked out and I went to the doctor this morning. He told me that they are enlarged taste buds that became irritated in response to something I ate. He said the mostly likely culprit was something really spicy/hot.

My mind was boggled, because I eat really hot food all the damn time. Then I thought to myself, "What the hell NEW have I eaten that was hot?" Then I remembered that I bought some Tostidos Salda dip (the hot kind) about a week ago. I've never had the Hot kind, as I usually just get Mild.

He said that they go away on their own, and if I wanted, I could use chloraseptic to dull the pain...and to gargle with peroxide.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? When I saw those bumps, they scared the shit outta me. :lol

When I was 7 years old I was woken up by my screaming mum who found my pillow drenched in blood.

All the blood vessells on my right side of the tounge were swollen and bleeding. Later found out I had a bizarre genetic disorder that causes the blood vessells to swell and die off at an accellerated rate. Had years of cryo surgery on it, swelling and bloated blood vessells came and went but that side of the tounge is still about 40% bigger then the 'normal side'.

I'll always remember the surgeon at the hospital telling me. "Well Christopher, look on the bright side, with a tounge like that you'll be able to eat up more ice cream!". With me thinking, even at the age of 7, that with a larger lumpy tounge, wouldn't I techinically be able to scoop up less? :lol
