Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I'm not embarrassed, I'm proud that gamers are standing up for what they want. As consumers we have every right to, I'd even go as far as to say we have a duty to.

EA said Simcity couldn't be played offline. Consumers spoke up, and now it is offline.

Microsoft said the Xone couldn't be changed to remove the online DRM. Again consumers spoke up, and it was removed.

Whenver anti-consumer polices are forced upon gamers we have a responsibility to speak out, or else we are just as guilty as the AAA studios mistreating us. There really is no justifiable reason for the PS4 version to be 900p other than Ubisoft didn't feel like making it 1080p. They have even stated as much, saying they kept both versions at 900p to make them equal. So the PS4 consumers will get an inferior product not because the console can't do better, but because the console they DIDN'T buy can't do better.

That's utter horseshit, and consumers should not be okay with it.

Nothing really to be ashamed about IMHO.

This is well stated.

Yeah, that's part of it. There are a multitude of things that make me sad for gaming these days. Its like focus on the actual game itself it so far down on the list.

So much shit flying around constantly. I just want to play good games. I'm not excusing Ubi for this either, because its definitely stupid. I just wish this crap wasn't an issue and we could just play awesome games without resolutiongates, console wars, etc. Got damn...

If companies stop trying to screw consumers over and focus on simply making the best games possible, we wouldn't have so many of these issues.

Was Eurogamer update posted here yet?

They shouldn't get the wrong impression from the backlash. No one is asking them for the game to run at 1080p for the sake of running at 1080p. If they can't get it running at that resolution at an acceptable framerate, then don't do it. But there's no reason not to optimize the game for the PS4. Whatever resolution or framerate that may end up being.

Indeed! In fact, I think Gamers are some of the best consumers around when it comes to speaking out about Anti-consumer practices (AKA, Not taking BS), heck, if we werent, imagine what the gaming landscape would look like now.

Yep. Are we supposed to just sit there and say nothing as we're spoonfed bullshit?

"Oh we're CPU limited... that's why we're running at 900p on both systems. Oh and to avoid the debates."

Riiiight. Riiiiiiight.

How's that working out for you?

Do you mind if I just use your post here as a response to anyone stating how gamers are pathetic, entitled, ridiculous for wanting/expecting less BS?

I just wanted to quote MisterXMedia here for da truth...

Insider and Mistercteam Daily. Actually it is Sony who asked for parity with Assassin Creed Unity
Thats it folks. Facts straight from insiders ass.

Why would Sony ask for parity, which in turn would get them a inferor version compared to what they could have? This doesn't make sense.
Edit: oh wait, Mr.X lol

Every time UBI release something lately claim it's for the sake of the AI. I have played WD, not sure WTF of AI they talking about. Please UBI revise your engine, I beg you. Hire more people, I don't know but stop to find excuse.

Was Eurogamer update posted here yet?

In other words, they are only confirming that they were indeed going to pare one version back for parity. All in the space of a day the statement changes from, "We are going to lock both versions at 900p/30 FPS in order to avoid debates and stuff" to "Well, specs are not yet final." Amazing.

So are any journalists going to grow a pair and look into the parity clause that we are potentially seeing? Even to tell us that it doesnt exist?

Out of curiosity

How would people feel if the game released and both consoles ran it at 900p/30, but the PS4 used a variety of better graphical effects.
I would feel they made a very poor decision because the poor image quality distracts from all the detail put into the game.

For the first time in the Assassin's Creed series history I have cancelled my pre-order and am taking a wait and see approach to the series.

I am truly dissapointed with Ubisoft this year and AC Unity as AC Black Flag was my favorite PS4 launch title.

Sure, go ahead. Anything to help gamers unite and make us stronger. Because united we are all better off than we are divided.

Mengy nows what's up.

Wait? What? Ubisoft issues a second statement while I was sleeping? They are definitley feeling the heat. Nice. Game has rapidly went from sounding like a development clusterfuck to being almost assuredly so. Let me get this straight Ubi? Now you have no idea what ANY sku's Res/FR is? Right? Sure, Ubi, sure.

Oh. Here's a shoutout to all the people yesterday in this thread laughing and saying twitter campaigns and internet forums have no power over these companies. Two statements in 24 hours. Guess you were wrong about that one weren't ya? Enjoy the crow.

When confronted by despicable behavior, lack of action is always the wrong course.

If they are really committed to making the AI as great as possible and are using the CPU limitation as an excuse to use 900p then they should be building an engine that takes advantage of GPU compute to help with the AI calculations, and physics calculations and other computationally intensive calculations.

They will not have done that though because the Xbox One is a lot weaker in this regard than the PS4 for a variety of reasons. If they wanted to avoid the CPU bottleneck they could on the PS4 and they might be able to on the Xbox but that would be a greater challenge.

Ubi is bullshitting so much here they might just shit their own intestines out. A CPU bottleneck will not make a difference to the resolution the game runs at. Other effects maybe but resolution is entirely GPU based.

So are any journalists going to grow a pair and look into the parity clause that we are potentially seeing? Even to tell us that it doesnt exist?

I dont think so, the only thing they will do is tell us that we are stupid and we dont matter.
But please continue to give us clicks

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff,"

Now we'll hear non-stop bitching about unneeded console parity instead. But hey, at least Xbox One customers will be able to buy the game with confidence knowing that the PS4 version will be just as crippled.

Watch timed console parity become a thing. They release both games equally so one game doesn't hurt the other games initial sales at launch. Then after about six months... patch for the PS4 version.

Their last statement for me is BS, its purely to entice people back in the "hope" it will be 1080p... they said what they said and as far as I am concerned if they now release an inferior product than what its capable off "because of stuff" then I still will not buy it.

Earn your money Ubisoft, its possible at 1080p so lets see it, or funds will be placed in another publishers bank account.

Cant be quoted enough.

Remember in the MS DRM thread announcement people were flat out saying "Dont be entitled / complaining on the internet wont change shit"?

What a joke

It'd be better if you made it clear who you are referring to with that comment.

I know right? People come to a thread they know they don't like just to state that fact. They won't elaborate or add anything important to the topic.

Same here, although I didn't preorder yet. I said I'd take a wait and see approach after 3 but still got black flag day, this time I'll stand by decision unless they change this.

You don't know that for a fact. For instance, Watch Dogs, a open world from the same company runs at 900p/30fps on Ps4.

Just because Xbone is also at 900p this time does not necessarily mean they hold Ps4 back. It might be true and then you'd have a point, but it might also not be.

And I'm aware of they stated but that doesn't mean it would be 1080p either. Perhaps they were higher than 900p (but lower than 1080p) on Ps4, but with drops, and then decided it would be best to have a locked 900p on Ps4, and 900p with drops on xbone... Who knows? There are plenty of legit scenarios where they could opted for parity without holding a version back on purpose.

It's very odd that Ubisoft would originally state they wanted to "avoid the debate". Do they realize that the debate was never about developer capabilities but lamenting the lack of power innate in the Xbox One. Their failure to properly understand the concerns led to this shitstorm.

My head hurts.

I have an Xbox One. I could buy a PS4 any time I want, but there's nothing on the system that interests me so I could justify buying a second console. I like the One because of the OS, infrastructure, and because I don't like (old) Sony as a company. Also, I like Kinect. Feels like I am in the future everytime I use voice commands when watching Netflix. But I guess I'm easily excited.

You will not last long here.

joking

I think they mean, "We are sorry some of you misunderstood our guy. We did not gimp the game after we made it. Rather, we gimped it while we made it. But don't worry, it will still look very nice. But now we think we might un-gimp it, but we aren't sure either way, so please don't cancel your pre-orders"
This actually seems like a very accurate interpretation.

this is perfect, I think you should try and add to it so it can be quoted later.

I boycott this shit

You don't know that for a fact. For instance, Watch Dogs, a open world from the same company runs at 900p/30fps on Ps4.

Watch dogs on PS4 runs at 900p, but it runs at 792p on the Xone. There is still a step up for the PS4, the reason is because the PS4 is a more powerful machine. Whatever can be done on the Xone can always be done better on the PS4, with effort. It's just a fact.

That doesn't mean the Xbox one sucks or isn't a good gaming machine, it's just not as powerful as the PS4.

In this case though, Ubisoft is holding back the PS4 version from being all that it can be. Not because they can't do better, but because they don't want to bother doing better.

People keep saying stuff like this, but it seems like a moot point. Ubisoft could come out and say in clear language exactly what the issues are, but the fact is they haven't. They claimed the statement was misinterpreted, and that they did not 'lower' the specs, or 'reduce' them, but what they didn't actually comment on was whether they 'locked' the game to the same spec to avoid debates, or that they were thinking of doing this. The question people are really asking. It's a non-denial denial in other words.

The fact of the matter is, that is what was said, and there hasn't been a clear answer to suggest he meant otherwise.

Boogie knows what's up :P
there is truth to that, but one thing about PC gamers is that we can do something about our IQ. We get in game sliders, and when those fail we get injectors, and when those fail we get Durante

Console gamers depend on the developers to do all they can with the hardware, since they cant push it further themselves. This has its benefits of course, since it works out of the box exactly as it needs to.

The problem is this situation, when the developer is ignoring the hardware given to them to work with on purpose, and that is why, as a primary PC gamer, I will not even buy unity on PC because I wont support this practice.

While everyone argues over something as meaningless as 633,600 pixels, I'll be playing the next iteration of Assassin's Creed this fall.

This whole debate is utterly pointless.

Oh so you've played Unity then? Please inform us of your impressions. Because obviously it's was all just checking boxes right? Oh and the story must have been meaningless. Don't infer that the game "has no gameplay." Because that's just not true in anyway shape or form.
If he's played most or all of the other games in the series it's a pretty safe judgment call on the next one, come on dude
