Assassin's Creed Shadows 💮|OT|💮 Play Stealthy for Me |づ ╸ . •́ )メ

Just had my first "crash". The funny thing is that the game just closed? No notifications or anything wrong.

Pretty weird

Special K is almost obligatory for this game on PC (link here, cutscenes FPS unlock and other fixes for DLSS). I had weird jittering with some animations with DLSS + FG and now it's pretty much perfect. My frames jumped from 90/110 to 110/130 FPS with Special K. Added a custom Reshade on top of it and I'm pretty happy with the result. If you need help setting up anything you can pm or quote me but it's just copy/past honestly. I will post screenshots when I'm back on my PC.

Btw this mod (Latest Direct Storage) is doing wonder for the loadings.

Finally anyone with an ultrawide display can use this mod to hide the black bar on the photo mode (stupid to have them anyway): No HUD/Effect toggle.

On the gameplay side of things, it's the best AC since Origin (not complicated for me as I pretty much hated everything after it). I still hate the light RPGs elements but other than that its ok. Story seems weak so far but the exploration is nice and the world is beautiful to explore.

Btw Mana said we can activate something so the "leveling" does not apply to the hidden blade, so we can one-shot ennemies? Can't find it, maybe I missread.

Man, every single corner in this game is beautiful, what an incredible job Ubisoft has made with the graphics

Buddy of mine let me borrow his account just to try the game out because he knows I'm helpless AC fan. Rushed through the main story targets, did a couple of the side targets and did the Brotherhood quests.

The game is very pretty, kudos to the engineers for that, the prone mechanic although not as game-changing as some were making it out to be, it is a welcome addition. Stealth in general is better than Valhalla and Odyssey but that's not really saying much.
Other than that I honestly can't think of anything else to praise the game unfortunately...

It's as I feared, RPG mechanics are still garbage, the grind is stupid (thank god for guaranteed assassinations), the combat is still bad although I think it's a bit better than Odyssey and Valhalla. And seeing microtransactions on single-player games makes want to punch the screen every time I see them. Like every other AC game since Origins this game design just feels like a failed copy of TW3 to me.
The story is very mediocre, a revenge plot that's been done countless times in every kind of media, the "masked secret group" trope that has been going on since Origins is so dumb at this point, why can't they come up with something different? Jfc.
The music is also quite terrible, this is probably the only Assassin's Creed game in which I found myself getting distracted because the music was so goddamn awful.
And finally, with the exception of Black Flag's modern day sections, Yasuke is the single worse character I've had the misfortune of controlling in an AC game, my god, whomever designed him should not be allowed to touch a videogame ever again, whenever I was forced to play as him all I wanted was for it to be over and change over to Naoe immediately.
Naoe is cool, not one of the AC greats but also not terrible, her relationship with Junjiro is one of the best parts about the game. Also Love her hair :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Overall I still think this setting was Ubisoft's golden ticket to a massive success, I remember people asking for it since at least AC2 came out and despite Valhalla's covid boost I truly believe this Assassin's Creed setting was the one that could give Ubisoft their biggest game ever had they not fumbled it with shit design, marketing, management, quality assurance and whatever else misteps they have been constantly taking over the years to bring them to the brink of collapse. Shame on them.
I'll buy the game whenever it costs 10 or 20$.

Not only that but the destruction is also pretty cool. In an age where games are becoming increasingly fixed with no interactivity (especially as I just played FF16 and it's terrible at that), it's nice to see.

My game has changed seasons at times but I still haven't seen the winter season and snow. Is this a bug?
same, winter is not coming for me.

Too bad because seems to be the only season with actual "big" changes for the gameplay like frozen water, frozen bushes or enemy changing patrol and shit, the other 3 season just feel like a graphic change and not much else.

Music terrible? And Yasuke is the worst character in a videogame? Man I cant take you seriously with these takes lol

I thought the same, but once I killed a certain character winter did come. Not sure if this was intended or if it's a bug, but it does happen. Took many, many hours though, so not sure what's up with that.

Music is weird, you expect classic samurai movie music and instead you get kill bill music, maybe it feels out of place sometimes but at least it is more memorable and it is not bad per se, i don't remember music from past ac games at all except the menu theme.

I'll be skipping this one because of the God awful "force you to play as a 2nd character sometimes" bullshit.

Seriously hate that mechanic and don't know why it's so popular.

It works well in this game, because they play so differently. If you are kinda tired of 1 playstyle just switch and you will have a pretty different experience

Yasuke is the worst controlling character in an Assassin's Creed game, as in, his gameplay is awful, it's not even a question.
And the music is garbage yes.
Wording matters.

Dude is actually more agile than expected giving the size, the major difference is how fast naoe climb, run and the grappling hook.

I usully just switch to naoe if i have to explore, and tbh, with the kurisarigama she is as deadly as him in combat and you don't even need to get close to enemies, she trade damage for range (no the naginata doesn't hit as far nor as 360° as the chain), but she lacks the meaty looking hits of yasuke with the kanabo.

So, I caved and bought the game. (PS5 Pro)

Just finished the prologue and I have to say I'm really impressed.

Visually, the game is stunning, especially on my OLED.
Also decided to go with Balanced-mode on my tv, as the 40fps feel pretty smooth.

Rn I'm testing/playing the game on my PS Portal and Performance-mode is the way to go, obviously, as the screen is 1080p.
Although, I'm not sure what exactly makes Balanced superior to Performance anyway.

Overall, I'm content so far. Gameplay feels good too, but the only other AC I've played was the original AC, so I didn't expect to be let down anyway.

I am on Pro running on a LG G4 77" oled. I play everything at 60fps but for some strange reason this game runs super smooth in balance 40fps, Way too smooth feeling. Tv reports it as 120hrz. Really strange. Normally I hate 40fps. Not sure whats up with it, lol

In regards to show and witner no coming. Idk what to tell except that not only I've seen snow and snow cover, but also snow storm, huge snow fall as well as small one before I started seeng snow cover on the grass, trees etc.
I mean, we're not talking about a true to life simulation of how Earth works and how many things it (as well as the moon and the sun) even does to influence the weather as well as what we're doing to it to have an impact as well. But if I were to guess as to what is happening, there is a possibility that in some regions winter and snow comes first and then gets to the rest of them at some point based on the way how they programmed it to work, of which of course we know nothing and can only guess based on visual clues and observations in the game.

It's not a mod, it's just official Direct Storage .dll files. There's also newer DX12 .dll files, but they only work on one of the buggiest and unstable major updates for W11 which is 24H2.

Yeah, as I posted it, I thought maybe it was just my imagination, but good to see I'm not the only one. Lol

I have to say, while some games play smooth in 120hz (40fps) on Portal, like Ratchet and Clank or Monster Hunter Wilds, this game the lower fps compared to 60fps is quite noticeable.

Not complaining though, both options are great.

Damn man, how big is the first act?

Did the story mandated assassinations, thought it would lead to a swap point but still more Naoe story going on.

Also, the weather system is completely not what I thought it'd be, I thought it would only progress at story points, but it's like fast travel a few times and a change.

Don't forget there's only two days left before the first set of anomalies reset if you're looking to make the most progress on the first track of rewards in the animus projects

If you're around level ~23 you should be able to do them all without any difficulty.

Then you can probably do 3 out of 4, if they are global challenges and not random per person that is; there's one that requires you to kill someone, but he's in a level 25 area, and you can't really kill enemies that have skull icons above them instead of their level, they have like 99% damage reduction.

Now that they upgraded the engine they really should focus on updating their character rendering and especially the facial animations, because it really sticks out now and makes the whole presentation look alot cheaper than it should. Every ubi games suffers from this and i dont understand why. There is no excuse for a huge company like ubi to have this AA level of facial animations

Has anyone gotten a weird desynchronization? I was in the middle of a dialogue scene and got a game over. I thought maybe I clicked the wrong option or was supposed to initiate it with Yasuke but reloading and initiation it again and it worked fine makes me think it's a bug.

I had the game return in me in time and space once when my internet was down for a while.

Not sure its related, but i thinks its their always online bs causing problems because i remember it happened to me multiple times in Valhalla too.

Man, I'm stunned by how polished and mostly bug free AC Shadows is compared to how AC Valhalla launched, so I'm glad they delayed it instead of releasing it in November as originally scheduled.

Also, this game is probably the best looking multiplatform open world title currently on consoles. I'm constantly pausing to take screenshots since the environment looks so good (this is a random shot I took about 15 minutes ago in balanced mode).
