The OLED is on its way!

I already thought the game looked damn near photorealistic with the Pro and a nice LED :messenger_dizzy:

I linked the Ubisoft account to my Xbox profile but Xbox acts like it has no idea. When I go to Ubisoft plus app or ac shadows it just prompts me to "join Ubisoft plus".
If you go to https://account.ubisoft.com/en-GB/transactions-history do you see the ubi+ payment?
If you don't see it check your receipt, you might be logging in to a different account.
If you do see it, scroll down on https://account.ubisoft.com/en-GB/account-information to see if your proper xbox account is linked.

What is the bloat like in this game? Is it similar to Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla? Those games were too big and a slog to play (the grind was terrible). I know its a big game, but is it more condensed than those two? I want to grab it when it is on sale, but I am not going to waste my time if it is the standard Ubi open world from the last 5-6 years. The last Ubi open world game I truly enjoyed was Immortals, which was a much more focused open world (still trying to get through Outlaws).

Its still got that open world Ubi bloat for sure. But honestly I think its been reigned in a little bit compared to Valhalla or Odyssey.

I enjoyed Valhalla overall but holy shit, that was bloat critical mass. By the end it was just an absolute slog to get through, my gamer OCD was in overdrive trying to get through it.

This one has the same stuff, but feels like much less of it so far. Feels like I can more casually trot my horse along from A to B without getting just overly assaulted with side bloat.

But yeah there is still some of that same repetitive. "Clear this keep, get the treasure box." Rinse and repeat 4 times per region.

I discovered that you can run up against the higher walls that you can't climb, but then they show the L1 prompt and they let you climb it while wallrunning up it.

DOPE

You know what. This game is fucking bad ass. I'm really getting into it.

Even if I get 10 to 15 hours of solid gameplay I'll be happy.

Games gorgeous. Infiltrating Osaka and taking my time planning all the samurai assassinations and then getting legendary gear 5 hours into the game and not doing story stuff.

This is the best ac for me since black flag.

Games great so far.

The seasonal changes and multiple sub-changes per season is some truly next-gen shit.

Never seen anything like it.

Unbelievable accomplishment.

Just got Yasuke.
Great intro; night, rain and great music

Yep, his re introduction scene was fire. The resolve between him and naoe was nice too. The skillup review video mentioned this in a negative way, but I thought it was fine and enough.

I just found a legendary armour with a perk that gives Yasuke 75% damage boost, this is ridiculous

Indeed it is ridiculous, because he doesn't need it at all lol.

This is the main reason I can't stop playing this game. Even my inner GoT fanboy can't deny this awesomeness. I'm really curious what yotei will bring to the table and if they can't up their weather effects to this level at least I will be instantly disappointed.

Finished act 1 and unlocked my man, Yasuke. Cleared Nijo Castle in Osaka with him and it was such a breeze. He's basically a T800 who demolishes everything it comes his way lol.

Also, he's a bit cheeky with them winks, lol.

Oh, and like I said yesterday, I can't seem to stop taking pictures in this game, lol.

These pics were taken on console... I can't imagine how good they might look on a high end PC with every setting in the game cranked up to max.

The game has already gotten tedious for me and I haven't even gotten out of the first region. It's more AC's formula in general than this game specifically. The problem with AC games is having an open world is cool... but when all the interesting areas to explore or all the quest destinations are in danger zones, it's so fucking tedious. Sometimes I just want to casually walk around and explore without having to be in stealth or combat mode all the fucking time. And it gets so tedious after a while. I go into a danger zone and it's like ok I either have to take my time and go veeeeery slooooooowly through this area and very carefully, which hurts the pacing. Or I have to fight through everyone. And it's like goddammit man I just for once want to be able to explore without being nagged by enemies all the damn time.

I know that's what AC games are, but when you make the games open world you're encouraging exploration. But they made exploration as tedious as possible by making it essentially inseparable from having to clear the areas out or go through them very carefully which takes the fun out of the exploration.

Same thing here as in all AC games. I start off enjoying it and get burned out by hour 10 because I'm so sick of having to either fight a million guys, sneak around all the damn time and just end up losing patience and just run away from enemies and get sick of being chased everywhere I go.

I hope max settings mean something because I'm playing at 25-36 FPS because of them
Digital Foundry PC review cannot come soon enough

Did you check optimized settings guide?
yes but I cannot be sure
almost all optimized settings videos on this game tell you to turn off ray traced reflections but I personally find great value in it
alex (digital foundry) would probably say it is worth to enable (my guess)
alex's optimized settings often prefers higher fidelity which I really like

Very useful

I turned down water and shadows to low btw can hardly see the difference but makes fps a lot higher

So I didnt use his optimized settings either because rt makes a nice difference but some options can be turned down easily

Got the game tonight and played about 3 hours.

I'll get it out the way that I don't have special feelings for the Assassins Creed franchise. I don't love them but I also don't hate them. I can count on one hand the number of games i've played and Origins was probably my favourite so far just because I love Egypt. I usually buy them if the setting interests me and i'm a sucker for Japan, so this was bound to lure me in. It's easily the most beautiful interpretation of the setting in a game to date (sorry Ghost of Tsushima). Playing on PS5 Pro in quality mode, I don't think any other game's visuals touch it on a technical level. The fact that this is a massive open world, yet just a random little shrine off the beaten path can look more holy shit than anything in a linear 10 hours long game, is just wild to me.

I had some trouble getting the HDR to look good due to the raised black levels (believe me, googling "Assassins Creed Shadows raised blacks issue" is a fucking task given the controversies). If anyone has an LG OLED, i'll save you some time: leave the in-game gamma setting at default, set in-game peak brightness at match your TV's (my C1 was 800), set TV HDR mode to HGiG, lower TV brightness to around 47, and adjust the Fine Tune Dark Areas setting to -3. Washed out shadows gone.

In terms of gameplay, combat is serviceable enough. It's difficult for me to be impressed as i'm on the last part of Rise of the Ronin, so i've been spoiled by 55 hours of Team Ninja's genre expertise. But it's also not a bad effort from a Western studio, and baby's first parry system is massively preferable to trying to be clever like Kingdom Come Deliverance, which ended up as a complete abortion. Where Shadows really shines is the stealth, and i'm guessing that is why Naoe feels like the unofficial main character of the two protagonists. Again, it's not reaching the highs of genre kings like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory or Metal Gear Solid V by any means, but in combination with the setting this is as close to a new Tenchu game as we can possibly get. I think I spent a good chunk of my 3 hours just fucking about trying to beat that first castle. The sandbox of it wasn't even that interesting, and I barely had any abilities beyond assassination kills and kunai, but the stealth difficulty on normal mode feels very well tuned. You can't just one shot everyone and call it a day. I really had to chip away with hit-and-run tactics to beat that level, which was honestly pretty thrilling at times. Naoe's weakness really forces you to stay concealed and works as a great contrast to Yasuke, who in the 10 minutes I played of him felt like a walking tank. He can literally burst through doors like the fucking Kool-Aid man, it's wild.

The emotional impact of Naoe's story is also unexpectedly solid. I'm not the biggest fan of the way it's time jumping so much, and once again the Animus can fuck off when it sucks me out of the experience, but it's looking like it's finally settling down now that i've been let out into the open world. I also strongly advise that everyone plays in immersive mode as the Japanese voice acting is excellent, really selling the whole setting and also eliminates the poor voiceover criticism. I've gone with canon mode too to get the story experience the developers want me to have, and because I really think it works better. Just let the cutscenes play out as intended, like a movie, rather than stopping awkwardly every two minutes for the player to pick silly dialogue choices. Worth also mentioning some really inspired musical choices - it's not all generic orchestras, flutes and shamisens. The spaghetti western style music that accompanied the bad guys reveal gave me sort of Kill Bill vibes, which fits the revenge story of the game.

Overall, unbelievably surprisingly good game.

Put stealth on expert difficulty and put guaranteed assassinations on in the gameplay > difficulty tuning menu. It makes for an EVEN more saitisfying stealth experience. Trust me.

Great post. Laughed at the abortion comment because thats exactly what that combat system is.

I actually am very surprised by the castles. They are huge compared to previous games which were mostly small far cry like outposts. These feel like mini cities. They all feel like their own mini MGS Ground Zeroes like maps. Hunting down Samurais instead of simply killing everyone is a great idea because you are encouraged to think outside the box. It also helps you finish these massive castles in 10-15 minutes instead of an hour where it might old.

Thanks for the HDR settings. I will try fine tuning the dark areas but on my CX that means turning off VRR. Oh well.

Ground Zeroes was exactly the sort of feeling I was getting too.

Personally i'm playing in quality mode which on PS5 Pro is only 30fps so I have no use for VRR myself.

I used this video for the HDR settings:

Some of the comments are useful, this was close to what I did:

The 47 number would just be the general TV brightness setting on my C1, I dropped it from 50 to 47 and it made a big difference.

On PC there are now some mods out for it too:

I am so far behind everyone else. Just got to level 13. Definitely prefering playing as Naoe over Yasuke. He is big and powerful, but just not the playstyle I want in an AC game. Really wish Naoe had the bow though. I'll need to beef up the tools section.

Also, why is it that dual assassination isn't working for me? I have the perk. I stand over two guys right next to each other and I only get the option to assasinate one of them? Did they change this up?

Probably done with this one. Got 30 hours in and enjoyed every bit of it.

At the point where I want to advance story but it's very long in the tooth and cumbersome. I don't want to do 5-10 whole ass missions that take a long while to do just to finally make it to a target mission. Still have like 7 or 8 main people to off? Yeah no I'm good.

They really needed to focus these missions for people who just want to see the story. I did odyssey and that was enough long in the tooth AC for me.

After 15 hours, it's ok. The game is totally caried by it's world as the story is boring and cliché as it can get. Infiltration is ok but nothing new or mind blowing, it's serviceable. RPGs elements are useless, they waste so much time and ressources on this just let this aspect die please. Overall a 6/10 game for now.

Alright I thought I was going crazy, but it seems the patch actually introduced a bug, every time I interact with something there's a stutter now, and people on reddit are saying the same:

It's very annoying and makes me almost not want to play anymore, I'll guess I'll go do something else and see if it gets fixed soon.

Can't say I've noticed that on console.

But looks like the patch didn't fix the persistent issue I'm having where I'm not able to change equipment in a some scenarios (not while in combat mind you, just running around the world) , the one place that I can always reliably change equipment is on the horse, for some reason.
