Assassin's Creed Shadows 💮|OT|💮 Play Stealthy for Me |づ ╸ . •́ )メ

It out in europe and many other regions so try those.

The default was Netherlands and it's 2335 so I'll wait the 25 min(won't let me switch at all without plus), does my PC have to have the right timezone to work of just using the VPN is enough? And does it work directly through Steam?

Edit: tempted to refund on Steam and just play on Ubi plus now^ lol

Just VPN should be enough if you have the app, no need to do the rest, but i think its actually releasing a bit later on steam (by a few hours) than on ubisoft store, could try launching through ubi store to see if it works, but not sure if itll work since you have the license through steam.

Just finished listening to the soundtrack and goddamnit, ACG was right, it's really not for everybody. I liked 1 or 2 songs but other than that jfc... I had to go back and listen to City of Jerusalem to cleanse my soul.
The trap especially is quite strange...
Hey Karak Karak , could you perhaps spoil me on something and tell me how involved the Brotherhood is in the story if at all? Like, does the creed matter at all or is it once again completely disregarded in exchange for a more generic plot?

I really like how different both characters feel, it's not small differences like in syndicate.
Yasuke is like playing demi-god kassandra, while naoe has the deepest stealth gameplay of the entire franchise yet, prone stealth is sexy AF.

I was planning on playing just naoe, but I really like Yasuke's power as well.

30 minutes in, I'm going to crush a bunch of animators' souls but I skipped most of the Yasuke cutscenes - I just don't give a shit.

Super early impressions:

- game runs insanely good on a 4070
- combat is a joke after playing Rise of the Ronin for days
- huge difference between Yasuke and Naoe in terms of combat style
- visuals are crazy. It's definitely a step up from Valhalla. A lot more stuff happening on screen. Super crisp graphics
- Naoe story is actually pretty okay so far
- Japanese voice over is dope, can't imagine playing this with English dub
- prone is a game changer. Can't believe it took them this long

I'm going to bed (it's past midnight) and continue tomorrow. Really looking forward to it!

I can't believe we've been playing assassin's creed all this time without prone stealth; can never go back now

you shouldn't need a vpn now. It is available for everyone on U+

Since I stopped using VPN to NZ, it stopped crashing. Must have been connection issues.

First game I'm playing with my 9070 XT. Looks fantastic.

More shots.

Man the guards stay on -searching- for a long ass time on expert if they detect you, seems like the way to go if you really want the full experience for both characters.

Folks playing on PC, are you seeing a bit of screen tearing? Have freesync pro on my TV, but still seeing it some.

So far pretty decent intro, but Valhalla was fun for the first couple hours too before becoming tiring.
Poor Nanoe cant catch a break

Surprised how playing Yasuke felt like playing a baby space marine haha.

Hadnt noticed any so far, are you seeing it in cutscenes or gameplay? Cutscenes seem locked to 30 for some reason, could be outside of freesync range.

Gameplay. Cutscenes are 30fps for me as well. Not sure why I'm seeing tearing. Strange.

Noticed something weird to watch out for, turns out they use different upscaler presets than normal. When set to quality it shows 44% which is even below performance instead of 66% as it should.

EDIT: Turns out they just calculate the percentages differently for some reason and 44% here is the same as 66% would be in other games, so disregard this.

Its odd as hell as a soundtrack man odd as hell. When I get back in I will check the NDA because there are things they dont want to discuss.

While I am sure folks will bitch I can say I still feel the way I said in the review. Yasuke feels like Eivor should have felt somewhat and never did and stealth and prone is a game changer on harder difficulties.

I'm guessing no one on Steam is playing? I also tried the Tunnelbear vpn, changed to Australia, and it still says releases on the 20th for me. Oh well, will play later tonight.

Here's my early thoughts:

The good:
-The game is absolutely beautiful, last gen my ass. Everything about it is pretty, the art style, the textures, the lighting, the mood. Absolutely crushes the last few AC games, and they weren't exactly ugly games.

-Unlike RE, the hair strands looks really good in this game, better than even Veilguard, which was probably the only good thing about that game.

-The facial animations are impeccable and show every emotion in a realistic way

-The English lip sync is as good as any game out now

-The stealth additions are mostly awesome

-Yasuke's voice actor did a nice job

-There is a lot of flash and style in the combat

-Performance is nice. I know I have a 4090, but many games that look worse than this, run much worse as well.

The bad:

-Exploration is a lot more linear, even past the opening. Areas are walled off, you can climb far fewer areas than you could in previous games. Add to that the many linear quests and it feels far less like an open world game than the last three AC games.

-The beginning couple hours is super slow. Cut scene, loading screen, loading screen, cut scene, 2 minutes of gameplay, rinse, repeat. Let me play the game for god sake.

-Naoes voice actor (and many others) is mostly poor, so you can have poor voice acting with excellent lip sync or you can have good voice acting with poor lip sync.

-Yasuke doesn't fit in this game as designed, and he wouldn't even if he were a Japanese character. He is boring to play, he break the mechanics, and he makes playing as Naoe feel like playing with one arm tied behind your back. The fact they gave the tank a parry and Naoe a deflect is laughable. Seems like the slow brute should have block and the fast, agile one should have a parry.

-Naoe is more fun, and actually feels like an AC character, but because Yasuke is god mode, you have to put in 10x the work, 10x the time and effort for half the reward playing her. He's a walking cheat code, which means Naoe gets spongy enemies and needs to attack for days to accomplish what Yasuke gets to do in a couple hits. Both characters should have been on Naoe's levelp power wise, just like Odyssey or Valhalla.

-While the combat is flashy, it's rigid and awkward and clunky compared to just about any other game of this type. And putting it on Expert doesn't actually make it better, enemies are still braindead and slow, they are just significantly more spongy, especially with Naoe. The animations aren't terrible, but rarely does your characters and the enemies flow or look natural.

-Parkour is serviceable, at best, and even with Naoe isn't as smooth as the previous games. It's also significantly more restrictive. They did add some cool flipping animations to make up for it, though...lol.

-The grapple hook is clunky as hell. Most of the time you have to be directly under something to use it, come on man Sekiro was released 6 years ago, ffs.

-No jump button. Dunno why they removed this. This adds to the clunkyness of parkour. If you are running towards a ledge it's basically a coin flip if the developers decided you should automatically jump at the end or just fall off the edge. Makes no sense to remove the jump, especially for Naoe.

Four hours in I think this series peaked with Odyssey. This game should have been a slam dunk. It was, by far, the most wanted setting for the last 15 years. Graphically, thematically, artistically, it is 100% the best game of the RPG series, but gameplay wise, it's absolutely not as good as the previous games. It's even worse because we've had multiple other games use this setting and they all had much better gameplay. Makes perfect sense why the review scores are where they are, it's higher in some areas, and lower in other areas, to the previous AC games, which puts it in the same ballpark overall. Anyway, not shit, not great.

Not so far.
A few hours in now and I hope Ubi sues the ever living shit out of the grifters who went after the game.
Sue them for what? Hurting your feelings?

Turn off vsync in game and enable it in the nvidia/amd control panel instead.

Also, set the max framerate 3 below your tv's max.

this comes straight from an nvidia guy so not sure if it also applies to AMD cards, but every time i notice tearing or jittering in my games, thats the first thing i check.

Hmm it seems the game does not have guaranteed assassinations, that's pretty disappointing and a step back from valhalla.

Wasn't Valhalla also the same, same for Origins and Odysssey?

Something they specifically changed for Mirage.

valhalla was not the same, it had guaranteed assassinations at about when you reach level 8, so like an hour in, which is why valhalla had no level gating or grind since you could always 100% kill anyone in stealth.

Oh, and for anyone playing on PC, the black level is raised by default, which gives the game a slight hazy/washed out look, but using lilium's HDR black floor fix in Reshade fixes it right up.

Hey guys don't climb on Torii gates, it's disrespectful. The game tells you this so you know there are some limits even video games cannot cross.

OK back to cutting off heads.

I'm gonna reserve judgement on having to unlock assassination damage tiers for now, perhaps it won't be as annoying as it was in origins or odyssey.

Yeah, that was strange. A huge ass pop-up telling you not to climb on the Torii gates and be respectful. Like, wtf. If you have to put in a giant disclaimer like that, just make it so you can't climb them at all. Does anything actually happen if you do climb them? I didn't check on the off chance it actually has gameplay ramifications.
