Assassin's Creed Syndicate PC Performance Thread

Well, shoot.

Syndicate has the same visual artifact that Watchdogs and Unity did when using any MSAA or TXAA option: flickering white outlines visible around the player character and certain environmental elements. It can also create flickering white lines in between some texture seams in walls and floors. I know it was fixed for Watchdogs with a later patch, not sure about Unity, since I was using FXAA in that game the majority of the time.

Any way to unlock the Edward & Elise outfit for PC? Here's for PS4, but I wonder where you can do it for the PC

Not sure if those are the same ones but there's a couple you can get the Steampunk outfit for Evie and the Victorian Legends Outfit for Jacob in the game's E-store for free. There's also a few to unlock in the Uplay rewards section with no points required.

Thanks, I see it's in the rewards. You got a link to that Steampunk thing as well?

Just did some running around White Chapel and started a bounty hunt and somehow killed the target by touching him with a carriage. >_>

VSync set at 60 with RTSS, patched (which I assume was for more than just DLC) since last time, also enabled 16x AF.
EDIT: I probably should've set Vsync to 61 as I just did.

You should be able to find it in the E-Store under "Buy Items" if you haven't checked already.

Can I just add that personally I most enjoy the fact that the texture pop-in distance and amount has been greatly reduced compared to Unity?

I loved the look of Unity, but the tradeoff draw distance and egregious pop-in were pulling me out of the world all the time. This is so much better in Syndicate, you still notice some texture swap on the NPCs but nowhere near Unity levels. I love how London looks in this game.

I'm getting around 45-60 fps on a single gtx970, Hbao+, no pcss. The port is actually great.

Any Nvidia anti-aliasing flags or solutions for this? FXAA is required in all kinds of AA options in this game, and it makes everything look blurry as fuck.

I want pristine SSAA or SGSAA. Is this possible? 2160p + Reshade SMAA is too much for my GPU to handle whereas 1080p with SSAA would be an ideal solution for gameplay

Finally found the level of performance I'm happy with..

1080p
environmental detail - ultra high
textures - high
shadows - high
SSAO - HBAO+ Ultra
AA - 2xMSAA + FXAA

getting 60-70 in London running around.

Not really what I was hoping for w/ 2 Titan Xs in SLI (one is disabled, since SLI scaling isn't good), though clearly the game runs quite well without Nvidia's expensive effects.

I'm seeing a good 60-70% cpu usage across all cores on my 3770k and 99% of 1 gpu. If they can fix SLI scaling I might be able to play in 4k, which would make me happy.. so here's hoping.

In the meantime, this is very playable and still looks good. (though I may try SMAA as an alternative to the MSAA + FXAA combo..

Is there any efficient external AA solution we can use ? SMAA for example ?

I turned down environment quality to very high, SSAO to HBAO+, and AA to FXAA. Locked 60 at 1440p.

Are your CPU and GPU stock? I'm getting 60+fps at 1440p with environment quality on ultra, ssao, habo+ ultra and fxaa with a 4690k @ 4.5ghz + 980ti @ 1450mhz.

strange sli has worked beautifully in all the past ac game ive played. But in this one i get practically no improvement.

Anyone have any idea how it's running on mobile chips and how SLI support is? Specifically wanted to play this on the laptop at 3k which has 2 965m sli, which from a performance perspective equates to almost a desktop 970 if there's a decent sli profile, so I'm wondering if anyone's tried it yet. I've got a 980 ti on the desktop if the laptops not meaty enough, but I kinda thought this game would be good on the go.

How better is it than the PS4 version? Didn't finish it on PS4 and thinking of trading that in and get the PC version.

Much, much better. I did that exact thing. The PS4 version was sub 30fps half the time at 900p and on my 970 it's 60fps mostly at 1080p (with PCSS/MSAA off obviously).

Depends on your specs, as usual.

It is not limited to 30fps and has higher settings on offer than consoles. Expectedly, it can become extremely demanding GPU wise.

Performs the same as Unity for me with same settings, I.e. no ultra PCSS or HBAO and FXAA at 60fps 1080p.

Feel like you should be able to tweak up at least one of those settings on your rig. I have a similar one at 1440p and can maintain 50-60 range with HBAO Ultra or some of the better AA, so you should be able to have at least one of those on at 1080p.

I started maxed with FXAA at 1440p in Croydon but even dropping those ultra settings I was going down to 45 in the first few minutes of the game.

I tried the ultra settings at 1080p and still had drops.

I prefer it to be pretty much solid at 60, which it is with these settings. So far anyway. Unity was pretty solid so I am expecting the same.

Following Andy's awesome guide i turned down the environment from extra high to very high and it looks the same, i also set the shadows on high which look good enough and don't destroy performances. Game looks amazing and it's a steady 60fps experience at 1080p with FXAA (for now at least).

130% faster absolutely sounds wrong. :/
GTX 970 has almost two times more peak processing power than what PS4 GPU has - and it is a more efficient design which is always running closer to the peak than any GCN chip out there. If you check the benchmarks you'll see that 970 is usually about two times faster than R7 265 / 370 which are the closest to PS4 GPU parts available on PC.
Nvidia flops are different from AMD's. A 970 roughly matches a 290X which is a 5.6 tflops GPU so it's more than 3x faster than the PS4.

High preset gives me 35 to 60 and it plays well at that and looks very good. You may need some Medium.

I may try a 30 lock to see if it feels better than the variable rate I have now.

Enjoying the game so far.

I completed Sequence 2 and after a modern day cutscene Sequence 2 started again. I completed Sequence 2 again and the same thing happened again. What the hell do I do?

Anyone else getting this bug on PC?

Didn't have this issue but IIRC I saw someone with a similar thread title in the Uplay forums. I didn't check it because I was there just to see if there was any comment on the 30 fps cloth physics.

Well you wont have poor SLI scaling like I do currently with this game using 2 x 970 (~ 980Ti speeds with decent scaling), but you will have to turn down shadows to high to maintain 60 FPS, PCSS is too huge of hit when you get to the open city. Also, don't expect to be able to set AA settings very high and maintain a constant 60 fps, I ended up dropping down to FXAA only to maintain this. So you should be able to run everything at ultra for 1440p 60 fps aside from shadows and AA.
I usually set shadows to medium since any higher than that and they look unrealistic. 2xTXAA is my go to method for AA. I don't need to hit 60 constantly because of my Gsync. I'll take 45+.

Okay this is driving me mad. I've been comparing very high LOD and ultra LOD and I can't see any difference but the framerate drops a bit in London.

Do you mean the environment setting? The Nvidia guide basically said the same thing, there wasn't much difference between Ultra and VH, especially for the framerate cost.

Yes, environment controls the LOD in the game, like in AC games since III.
I really struggle to see any differences, the Geforce guide claims the difference is visible in very lush areas but in London ? I would not be able to distinguish the two.

So, very high it is. Ultra is slightly too much for my stock 4770K, I should look into overclocking one of these days. I have a Z87 motherboard with the latest BIOS and a Noctua NH U12S with two fans in push/pull configuration.

my goodness.. uplay download is so sloww.. anyone here experiencing slow download with uplay ?

i got 300-500 kbps download, sometimes down to literally 0 kb/s, i can easily reached around 3mb/s when using steam..

Where are you located? I have full speed with Uplay as well as Steam.

I got 24MB/s on uplay, it was actually faster than my Steam downloads

I get the same pitiful download speed on both Steam and Uplay, 922kb/s that is.

Uplay is way faster than Steam for me. Downloading The Crew right now from Uplay at 85 MB/s.

The game runs pretty good on my PC.

I think I actually prefer higher settings and lower FPS in this game though, it's just so good looking.

Basically, you can use SweetFX SMAA or heavy downsampling (DSR, or the AMD equivalent). That's about it.

While I'm not sure how well it would interact with this specific engine, for the thousandth time, I wish they had Fallout 4's TAA as an option. It has a 3-4 frame impact, and is superior to TXAA. Ah well.

Today i messed with AC Syndicate graphics options to get best visuals vs. performance ratio. And i find out that 900p upscaled to 1080p with ReShade sharpening is not that bad choice.

Here you can see how 900p to 1080p looks without sharpening and with Sharpening

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/151243

And this is hop 900p to 1080p with sharpening looks like in compassion to pure 1080p

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/151244

Its early so I am reading this first thing,
Your using reshade to upscale, or wait. What. Sorry I am just...I need some caffeine I think.

I don't understand what 900p hop is either. Do you mean the hop from 900p to 1080p?

The second one appears to be a comparison between 900p w/ sharpening and 1080p w/o sharpening.

Thats what I thought 2 but the artifacts show up in the 1080p picture not the 900p which I am assuming is the one with all the filtering. I really need some mt dew lol.

Yeah ok now I'm really confused too lmao

Ya and don't get me wrong there is some cool stuff he is doing. I just need to know what pics go with what and what he means by upsampling from 900p, where he is doing it and when posting pics like that its good to have the settings as well. Could be very very useful for folks with lesser powered systems.
