I don't know if it's related. Probably but I've been testing out different configurations and I've found that occasionally If I'm standing still watching the fps readings they will spike eg. Average running at 22fps and stay still in corner and wait my fps every 30 seconds or so will drop very quickly to roughly anywhere from 14 - 19 and quickly recover. It's hardly even noticeable it happens so fast but it seems like it's cycling something that causes that drop.

Then sporadically I'll have the few second lock up and the full lock ups. I'm thinking these 3 things might be related.

Also I've been able to get my rig running a little faster, seems clevo disabled turbo boost on my laptop but theres some cool bios mods out there that return full functionality as well as a nice undervolt and dynamic power savings. Just stress tested it tonight and had it running in the high 20s instead of low.

I also noticed in the config .ini there's a setting for character quality which didn't change (was at 2) no matter which preset I altered so I changed it myself. Haven't noticed any real difference but I haven't been doing single player with cutscenes very much.

Performance reports are all over the place. Even with low textures I can't run the game for long before I start experiencing egregious stuttering (2x 2GB 670s). I've given up on it for now.

Is the stuttering better or worse with single card? Watch Dogs is pretty much unplayable with two.

I haven't experimented with disabling SLI, but even assuming my stuttering woes go away when using a single card, I can't imagine that one 670 is going to be up the task of producing even a remotely playable framerate with decent settings.

Yeah, the rain in the air looks fantastic to me, but they should have done more with wet surface shader effects like they did in AC4. That's one of the few ways I think AC4 was better. Unity overall looks much better.
 
PC cats. anyone find a work around that lets the game not freaking crash everytime i want to customize equipment or skills?


latest update seems to have added this feature.

Just overclock your current CPU if you haven't already. The game scales well across multiple cores but the difference isn't anything worth spending a significant amount of money on. Really, the only people who should be considering CPU upgrades are those with i3s or AMD CPUs.
 
Does anybody else get these white dotted lines in interiors?

I notice them a lot and they're sort of distracting. Don't know what could be causing it.
 
Yeah I have those white lines too, usually inside building. It almost looks like the 2 parts of the building are not properly connected.

what framerate are you targeting? i bit the bullet and bought the game today as i had some credit on gmg. i can get a mostly stable 30fps at 1440p with fxaa. MSAA has horrible aliasing and txaa kills framerate. luckily the fxaa iq is still great. im currently running stock 2500k @ 3.3 Ghz.

Yes, I've definitely noticed those on floors, walls and ceilings. It's probably just another bug that needs fixing. MSAA seems to make it worse, but I may be mistaken about that.

Your 7970 has 50% more VRAM than a 2GB 680.

You're ignoring the fact the performance difference between Ultra and Low is minimal.

If you're getting 30fps at ultra, you're not going to get much higher than 40fps at the lowest settings.

I've been playing it for about 10 hours on my r9 290 oc'd and i7 4770k 4ghz, it runs fine with everithing maxed out at 1080p and FXAA vsync off and bordless, i get from 35 to 70fps depend on the situation, but most of the time it runs at about 45fps, it drop to 35 just a few time when a lot of stuff happens and there are alot of npc
 
Kinda late to the party but I need to ask. For a CPU of I-7 4790K and EVGA 980 GTX SC ACX, what is the average fps for 1080p max settings FXAA?

well thats good to hear, I guess I can hold off on upgrading my CPU for a few more years. I thought overclocking your CPU is risky and void warranty?

Well hopefully if I get a GTX970, is it possible to get 60fps with all the settings on high? I have a 1080p monitor.

Hm, ACU.exe crashes every time I attempt to start the game with RadeonPro applied... Has anyone had this issue before? I already disabled the ingame overlay...

970 definetly doable at capped 30. Capped 60 just isn't feasible for really anyone, and really that's just an Ubi open world game thing, always will be areas that shit the bed it seems like.

I think overclocking voiding the warranty ultimately falls to AMD/Intel's discretion (i.e. if it's determined that the overclock directly lead to the death of your CPU then you're out of luck), but that being said it's only risky if you're not careful.
 
Some CPUs are flat out made and marketed to be overclocked and Intel even sells warranties for OCers that'll replace it if OCing is what kills it.

Intel ones with k at the end of the name are flat out made to be overclocked and are a waste of the extra dough to get them if you don't. Even just a low OC is pretty safe and practically expected these days.

Awesome. If I can play Unity without going bellow 30 at all then I'll take it. But still that doesn't change my mind that this game is an unoptimized mess. I gotta say being able to run Revelation and AC 3 on my 760 maxed out and at 60fps is awesome. Those games still look great. Even AC 2 still look really nice.

:O I have 4670k sweet that mean I can probably overclock it a bit. I'll do some serious research on this. Thanks Corpekata and Jasec.

Now I just gotta figure out which version of the 970 to get. Asus, MSI, etc. So many brands.
 
I'm getting locked 60FPS on everything set to its highest settings besides AA which is FXAA@1080P.(MSAAX4 or TXAA is 48-60,mostly hovering at 54FPS)

However I have one slight issue, I decided while 60FPS is good, in this game locked 30FPS isn't too bad of a trade off for better visuals.

So I locked the frame rate to 30,then used DSR to set my resolution in-game to 4K, however I'm getting a slide-show, as in 8FPS max!

I think it might be an issue with changing settings or something, as I see some others reporting 30+ with 4K.

SPECS:

i7 5820K@4.3GHZ
16GB DDR4@2133MHZ
GTX 970 SLI G1 with an overclock of 100 GPU clock and 300 Mem clock
840 EVO SSD
Windows 8.1 Pro
344.65 with updated SLI profile
 
I was thinking of getting the R9 290X 4 GB card, but noticed an iteration of the 270X with 4 GB as well, curious what kind of performance this would give me in Unity. Would be nice not to pay about twice as much if the 270 gives me good performance (well at least 30 @ 1080 on Ultra).

You'll definitely want to cap it to 30fps. The game is visually stunning. The density of the crowds actually does make the stealth mechanic actually useful for once. Way easier to blend in with the crowd now.

why would anyone buy a 290 at this point?

i was saying if your going to be spending that type of money why would you ever buy AMD? AMD gets trounced in that price bracket.
 
Just noticed that if i don't lock it at 30, i get those "2-3 seconds freezes" some of y'all were talking about.
Not a big deal since i keep it locked at 30, though.

I have the dotted lines as well. Sometimes seem to be occurring outside too. Sorry, I have no solution for this issue :(

Yea at the starting areas of Paris, I've heard it can be a bigger hit to fps latter on. Citizens starting fires my frames thank ye.

My laptops a Clevo W110ER, i5 3320m (Dual core - I think this is where most of my problems lie) it's 2.6ghz but the turbo is enabled which gets me about 3.1ghz in game.
Nvidia GT650M 2GB DDR3

Running everything on low, 720p definitely playable. The occasional freezes are annoying but I've read that may be a side effect of the single GT650 running in sub 30fps. Apparently theres there games where the same happens this is just the first game that I haven't been able to break 30 :(

I have the same setup and with max settings and FXAA at 1080p, in the first town, it sticks around 45-50 FPS, hitting 60 in some places but the wild fluctuations are jarring. Add in the tessellation and capping at 30 seems sensible.

You can add TXAA comfortably, although the implementation in this game is horrendous. Compare it with AC3 or Black Flag and it is just a jagged blurred mess.
 
I just turned off G-Sync as I was curious as to how much it is helping my experience in this paticular game, and if it was the reason why others aren't having such a great time. Tried these configurations:

1) 144hz Vsync off - still a good experience, not quite as good obviously, but not bad. Barely any noticeable tearing.
2) 60hz Vsync on - Quite poor. Lower framerates, slow, juddery image. Not good.

G-Sync is a great help, but someone with a regular 120/144hz monitor with vsync turned off should still have a pretty good experience.
 
AMD 1055T, R9 280 user here. Fps 20-35 no matter at what setting or resolution. So 1080p Ultra-High settings with AA off I am playing at 22-25 fps average. Looks like CPU bottleneck but then users with i5 and 280x are getting similar results. No idea frankly.

EDIT: Also, oddly, I have very less popins of NPCs and almost none of other building details have popin.

My average framerate is somewhere in between 55-70fps, and because of GSync, it's all smooth. But from other people's experiences, I expected much less consistent frametimes, but I'm playing in the Paris, running around the dense crowds, trying to fit as much on screen as possible and it is holding up remarkably well.

It's smoother than Black Flag for me and Unity is doing quite a bit more. I'm actually quite impressed. Surely I'm not the only one having a reasonably good experience?

Yeah, it's not perfect, lots of glitches, the NPC and building detail pop-in is weird, but is just inherent to the design of the game. I haven't had any game crashes though, and I'm running uPlay in offline mode, I haven't actually tried it with uPlay in online mode yet so I don't know if this is making any difference.

I've had a similar experience with a similar rig. I was expecting a GTA IV style framerate, random and unexpected prolong dips, lots of stutter and a wildly fluctuating framerate but that isn't the case. It seems that the actual Ultra settings aren't necessarily badly optimized, higher end hardware can get consistent performance with them enabled. Where they failed, outside of the obvious glitches and the ridiculous pop in and LOD issues, was they seem to have no good way to scale it down even for really good PC hardware and the consoles. You really can't just launch a game like that.
