I...want...a....psp....now... :(

Mercury does look a bit stringent in how you solve puzzles. :(

Whoever's idea was it to bring a Dungeon Crawler to the PSP's launch is a fucking genius. I understand the difficulty in getting a massive game like an RPG ready for a system launch and also the fact that it doesn't lend itself to the hype train. Making a dungeon crawler however alleviates that monstrous task, makes it easier to sell since it's more action based, and provides some much needed RPG loving.

Though the viewpoint sucks in that IGN video link that was provided, man I hope they make it more of a 3/4th view.

So they canned the tilt-sensor thing for Mercury?
No official can but the CES version did not have it and they didn't mention a single word of it in the stat sheet they had at the show.

I think it would be safe to assume that a tilt sensor at launch isn't happening and probably not at all since Mercury is the only title that would be using it and releasing after it's launch isn't that bright of an idea.

Gamespot has a video interview with Archer McLean at the show. Archer indicated they were still working on it, made it sound like they were still planning to release it.

Yes I'm aware of that, they've also mentioned that fact several times in previous interviews before CES. They've also mentioned it to other websites as well at CES.

Simply put, they completely ignored to market that feature at CES. The fact that even they themselves don't seem so sure about it being available at launch, if at all, makes me feel that it's going to end up being scrapped. I don't know of any other titles that have the tilt sensor for planned use and Mercury itself seems to be a niche launch title.

I would love for the tilt sensor to be released, I'm pretty excited for this title myself. I'm pretty sure with full Sony backing and announcements of a few titles that plan on using the device, the tilt sensor would be a guaranteed release. I don't think it would theoretically work in terms of dollars and attachment rate but it would be an interesting extra for the PSP nontheless.

EDIT: Just in case I gave out the wrong idea, I want this thing to be released badly. Mercury seems like a definite must-buy for me and having a tilt sensor would make the controls *that* much better.

OOookay, TB. Wasn't trying to forcibly convince you that it *IS* coming, just wasn't sure if you were aware of that little tidbit. I agree - it's up in the air. But I wouldn't read any more into an omission from a fact sheet than I would Archer's indications that they're still working on it.

Ha ha got your "o" key stuck or something? I was just being concise there, you needn't worry about convincing me.

Just providing some pessimistic opinions on the matter considering the unfortunate lack of information regarding the peripheral since it's first announcement and the current landscape it's being released in, didn't know it was that important! That's enough of me on the subject.

EDIT: Off-topic but I remember Perfect Dark using the GB camera so you could import your face into the game. In fact they had it working well (don't know how well the face mapping feature worked) and without major bugs in the game's beta. I think the reason they scrapped it was because of fear from attracting negative press as a result from all the highschool shootings and violence. I think the rationale was that kids could place faces of their teachers, etc. Funny little anecdote about really cool additions to games and their unfortunate demise.

Mercury already supports the tilt sensor. This is confirmed in interviews. The only issue now is they don't know if they can get the tilt sensor hardware done in time for launch. If not it'll probably come out after. I don't see this getting scrapped imo.

All I want to know is if Lumines is getting a US release. I have seen anything confirmation or denial of this at all. If not, I'd like to import it soon. Does anyone know if Bandai plans to release it in the US??

Yeah, sluggish is exactly the word that came up in my mind while watching the Wipeout Pure video. Hopefully it's just the codec then. It seemed really tight from a visual point of view though. Maybe it's because it's not direct-feed (or because of the stage), but it seemed to use a brighter set of colors this time around, and everything looked more polished and solid. And the music was cool. :)

Wipeout Pure looked much better than I had imagined. Same for NBA Street.

Twisted Metal looks great. The widescreen view really helps out NFL STreet 2 as well! :D

It may be my eyes, but the visuals on the PSP screen don't look that small. Is it the sexy screen or am I envisioning something on my monitor that makes the images look bigger than they should be? With previous portable systems, everything on the screen has felt small and condensed. With the PSP, even though it is still only a 4.3" screen, I don't get the same condensed feeling when viewing the videos of these games!

wow these videos look much better than the gamespot stuff.

TM looks wicked! Wipeout needs to have stable frame rate.

Overall good stuff!

yuck fifa looks nasty

Gattsu, you'd probably be better off sticking to IGN's hands-on footage. The official trailer uses a lot of that extreme close-up camera like they do in the screenshots and just seems a little too chaotic to get a good sense of anything.

I want to watch the game, not the slideshow

Edit: eh, I guess it's not just IGN's poor videos...the movies they have are filled with poly seams and other anomalies

Damn, these games look so much better in motion. :) When I first checked ou the Wipeout Pics I thought they were nice, but they didn't blow me away, but seeing it in motion was so much better. The same with Untold Legends and NFL Street. I can't wait to get my hands on the PSP, and these videos aren't helping any.

IGN has two sets of videos - one set has no audio and exhibits the poly seams but the other set has audio and doesn't exhibit the seams. Not sure what that means, since they're both from the same show. I guess some areas aren't as optimized as others yet.

graphically they all look great imo (cept nfsu which still looks fugly), so here's hoping that the framerate of those games can by polished up by release.

SCE had developers put together demos of the games for CES, burned to UMD. The games with audio are from that event; the games that are silent are from meetings off the floor, using dev kits and crappier debug unit PSPs instead of the real thing (lots of strobing on the debugs not in the real screen).
