Astro Bot Could Hit the Big Screen for a Movie

Astro Bot PS5

Sony could turn its excellent platforming franchise Astro Bot into a movie in the future, as PlayStation Productions lead Asad Qizilbash has confirmed the company is "absolutely" considering a film adaptation.

Expanding on the suggestion, Qizilbash explained to Variety how Sony picked up on last year's PS5 entry earning many awards and building up an audience of enthusiasts. "Those are very early indicators for us to want to try and grow that franchise and grow that IP. So we’re constantly looking at that."

"And I would say it’s not just sort of awards and nominations that drive that," he explained. "Sometimes we have IP that’s just got great stories that a creator really wants to adapt it."

While the Astro Bot titles do follow a very basic narrative — the latest being to put back together a PS5 spaceship — the gameplay is very much the focus of the series. However, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie demonstrated in 2023, you do not need to follow an in-depth story to achieve success.

Need? No, but if they do it right, it could be fun. I just don't want something that gets away from what makes Astro Bot, Astro Bot. Please stay away from cheesy live action.

I mean, after watching Mario, I asked myself the same. Did Mario really need one?
But if it expands the IP's popularity, I wouldn't complain.
My problem with Mario movie is it was just like any other Illumination movies with same humour and jokes but skin of Mario IP.

I personally like Astro Bot and Mario for the actual gameplay not the story.

I rather play Mario/Astro bot than watching them as movie.

Mario, a game from the 80's all the way up to current date... hundreds of millions if not a billion of games sold.. my grandfather in his 80's has heard of it..

Astro Bot, a few million sold....

no movie yet

honestly, I don't think he works alone as a good mascot character. his games' atmosphere is carried by PS nostalgia stuff

Almost every kid know who Mario is… Not the same with Astro Bot, maybe in 10 years.
This is how you start. Thing's not going to pop culture itself. Little Big Planet came out almost 20 years ago and I'm guessing most people are more familiar with Astro Bot than they are with Sackboy.

Also, there's technically been 4 games.

Its not a draw. It could be a cool movie but kids only flock to stuff they talk about in school. Minecraft, Mario, Pokemon, Roblox, Fortnite, the big ones.

I would love an animated Ratchet & Clank tv show.

I want a Japan Studio platformers cinematic universe of Astro Bot, Ape Escape, Puppeteer, LocoRoco, Jumping Flash and Knack.

So people are going to go to the cinema to watch a 2-hour PlayStation commercial? The game is only about the gameplay, the Astrobot itself is absolutely bland and lacks any character traits.
