Taipei, Taiwan (30 May, 2013) — ASUS today announced the PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor, a desktop display with a stunning Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 resolution that’s equivalent to four Full HD displays stacked side-by-side. The PQ321 has a 31.5-inch LED-backlit 4K Ultra HD display (140 pixels-per-inch) with 16:9 aspect ratio, and supports 10-bit RGB ‘deep color’ for vibrant images with more natural transitions between hues.

Cutting-edge IGZO panel technology
The ASUS PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor uses cutting-edge Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) rather than traditional amorphous silicon for the active layer of its LCD panel. IGZO panels support much smaller transistors than amorphous silicon, which in turn gives much smaller pixels and the 3840 x 2160 resolution of the PQ321 is four times that of a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display.

176-degree wide viewing angles on both vertical and horizontal planes minimize onscreen color shift, while the 350cd/m² brightness rating and 8ms gray-to-gray response time ensure smooth, bright, and vibrant moving visuals. IGZO technology also gives reduced energy consumption compared to amorphous silicon and reduces bulk — at 35mm at its thickest point, the PQ321 is the thinnest 4K UHD monitor available today.

Comprehensive video inputs for UHD content
The ASUS PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor features DisplayPort and US models offer dual-HDMI ports inputs with Picture-by-Picture support. Built-in 2W stereo speakers remove the need for additional desktop clutter and, in addition to being wall-mountable, the monitor stand offers full height, swivel, and tilt adjustment.

AVAILABILITY & PRICING
ASUS will be exhibiting the 39-inch and 31.5-inch True 4K UHD Monitor models at Computex 2013 in Taipei. The ASUS PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor will be available in North America in the end of June.

It looks like the 31.5-inch PQ321 won't be the only 4K Ultra-HD monitor from ASUS for long. The company unveiled the even bigger unnamed 39-incher at Computex for a brief moment, before veiling it back, leaving us just enough time to take a few snaps. The 39-inch monitor is based on a VA (vertical-alignment) panel, compared to the IGZO panel that drives the PQ321. That could possibly make it cheaper. It offers a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, single-figure response time, 60 Hz refresh rate (when taking input from DisplayPort 1.2), 5,000:1 static contrast ratio with dynamic mega-contrast, 350 cd/m² brightness, 170°/170° viewing angles, and inputs that include a DisplayPort 1.2, and two HDMI. It also features a different forked stand design to the PQ321.

Update 1: no info about the DisplayPort framerate yet.
Update 2: Cheaper 39 inch version using VA panel comming Q3, supports DisplayPort 1.2 at 60Hz, [TechPowerUp]

Add another 1000$+ for top end sli/crossfire cards to run that res with max settings. And 30hz is lol.

Dat price, too... :E I'd love to see one in action, but I wouldn't buy one for years to come. First wave of new technology is always over-priced and shoddy in comparison to what will come in the future.

I wanna see 4k in-action, a native 4k movie/game/any video in-person. Does Best Buy or other stores have these setup yet? I'm guessing no

The Seiki 4k TV is rather widely available

I was told display port can do 4K @60hz. Hmm.
The Sharp 4k monitor (likely same panel) does that. Windows sees the monitor as two displays, resulting in a lot of problems for games.

Ahh, so it's literally a 4K monitor.
Heh.

I'm glad something's put out, even if the cost, Hz, and color depth completely murder this as being an appealing product. But hey, those Sony TVs seemed to drop really fast, maybe in a few years 4K monitors will cheap, prolific, and high quality! And able to display at higher than 30 FPS.

One of your BB's probably has Sony's 55" model set up. Spoiler: Native 4k content looks amazing, upconversion looks like shit. The HDMI consortium can eat shit for dragging these 24Hz 3D and 30Hz 4k limitations on for so long. They should have released a new spec 2 or 3 years ago.

30Hz because of HDMI 1.4 limitations? The $4000 price tag only adds insult to injury, they should have waited for HDMI 2.0 to allow 60 Hz @ UHD, I'd feel sorry for anyone who buys this thing.

And where's the framerate information, MST capable? Please, do share.

It doesn't say if it's multistream capable, but it seems likely. Besides the poster I quoted never asked that, he asked why it didn't have DP which it clearly has.
