AT&T Suffers Massive Hack: 'hacker stole some data from 'nearly all' wireless customers' (No PII at least)

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
PII = Personally Identifiable Information, eg social securities and shit.

AT&T has announced that the company believes a hacker stole records of calls and texts from nearly all of AT&T’s wireless customers, according to a financial filing from the company.

“The data does not contain the content of calls or texts, personal information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or other personally identifiable information,” AT&T said in their statement released early Friday morning. “These records identify the telephone numbers with which an AT&T or MVNO wireless number interacted during these periods, including telephone numbers of AT&T wireline customers and customers of other carriers, counts of those interactions, and aggregate call duration for a day or month.”

AT&T says it has taken “additional cybersecurity measures” in response to this incident including closing off the point of unlawful access.

AT&T confirmed that it will provide notice to its current and former impacted customers.

Companies, like political groups, always lie and deny. For years I was one of the strategists who came up with good excuses for certain teams. I wouldn't trust anything from AT&T's blanket denial. All that does is attempt to throttle a cascade of liability claims. Big pocket ballaz or class action claims could still pursue lawsuits if they had a bone to pick.

Dudes, prepay is the way to go. No SSN or ID needed, and you can opt out from saving any payment information. I understand that plans mean cheaper phones, but when the carrier gets megaowned like this, you get owned.

I swapped from AT&T to Mint last year. Costs less, no perceptible difference in service quality and cheaper for me to just buy a mid-range unlocked Android separately. And, yeah, like you said. Pre-paid for multiple lines for the whole year, one and done.

Not the stuff you would normally be concerned about. Could be embarrassing in some situations if someone made a searchable database and could provide some marginal use in phone scams but overall they were very lucky if the scope is accurate.
These days China, NK and other sponsored actors are scooping up as much data as they possibly can. Relevancy and data quality is less important in the long run so long as the capability to identify trends can be exercised, especially in identifying relationships and associations.
