Atelier Iris: ~Eternal Mana~

I just snagged this from some pawn shop near my house for a cool $20 CDN. It's complete and the disc is in pretty good condition, with only a few minor, mostly superficial scratches; nothing major at all.

Was it worth it? I've yet to try it for any decent length of time, and the reviews seem pretty solid (don't care much for those opinions though), so I figured I'd ask here.

I put a couple of hours into the Japanese version, and I had fun. Just haven't gotten back to it yet, since I started my whole Dragon Quest series play-through.

Well, yeah, I kinda like it. It's got some funny lines and the mana-system is pretty decent. Just keep in mind that you might grow some hate towards barrels...

I enjoyed it. Battles and main plot are standart, but there are lots of side plots and missions, the sysnthesis system is fun, the characters are likeable and it has the best shopkeeper of any rpg ( Veola in the Magic shop - her subplot is nice too heh )

I bought it at launch, and traded it back in along with Stella Deus.

Atelier Iris: Nothing wrong with it aside from the fact that it was just about as boring as could be.
Stella Deus: Too simplistic and easy to even be any fun at all.

Both games were pretty, though. Just no substance.

Exactly what I felt. The Nippon Ichi brand of humor isn't enough to ease the drudgery inherent in the gameplay.

Sorry, but you can't put Magna Carta on the same plane as Atelier Iris. Some people got some enjoyement outta Atelier Iris :lol

I enjoyed it quite a bit... there were some parts that got a little dull, but the game is pretty short (20 hours, not even) and there's some nice ideas with it (using elementals to solve puzzles). Battle system was cool, too - it's nice to have a back-to-basics battle system, none of this action or timing based stuff... and oh yeah the 2D graphics are awesome!

I'm with you guys on the boring bit. I definitely regret purchasing it new. It has lots of charm, but it wasn't enough for me. Probably a decent pawn shop pickup, though. That's probably where my copy is going to end up.

I liked it myself. While it's nothing particularly exciting, it's pretty amusing. It has one of my favorite RPG characters ever (Veola) in it and that's more than enough for me.

Barrels rock, and don't you forget it.

It has some good things going for it (crisp, detailed art, alchemy recipes, Veola's psychological warfare with customers), but it's also carrying alot of bad baggage, (simple gameplay, easy as shit, some patronizing cliches).

If push comes to shove, you could just eBay it and make your money back and then some playing the "Atlus/NI = rare card".

The game is boring for the first half of the game.....But it fucking picks up....

Esssspecially with the Blue Dragon, and Prism. Blue Dragon was easy after a little bit of leveling up, but Prism.....

....PRISM is a FUCKING.........BITCH.

Here's what I said at another forum, I might have been overeggerating, but I couldn't stress it enough.
I won't lie to you, yes it is easy. Some parts are hard as shit, especially Prism, because it requires you to use more than just mana potions, health potions, mana and health magic, and so on and on....It is advised that you don't attack big monsters and I'm talking normal "attack" button in the menu.

Um I already clocked in abt 29 hours and I don't think I'm nearing the end (I like to check every nook & cranny for secrets though).

Yeah Prism was tough, but I dunno I beat him on my first go...

The game is quite good, yeah there are some boring parts though but still its nice playing a traditional 2D turn-based RPGs nowadays.
