ATI Standard Drivers or Catalyst

I've used them both, but the last time I used the Catalyst was some time ago before all the more advanced games have been released. I was just curious of other people's opinions to them if there is a big difference now or still basically the same. I own a Radeon X800.

Aren't the Catalyst drivers also the Standard drivers?
Thats what I thought, but I remember hearing there were certain options available in the Catalyst that were unavailable in the standard control panel. I'm not sure if anything new applies to newer games or anything. I just remember using it long ago and it was still not 100% stable.

They are the same drivers, just one comes with the standard control panel and one comes with the more resource hungry catalyst control centre, which has more options and whatnot, but u may not really need.

They are the same drivers though.

Im kinda curious why the cant just incorporate whatever extra options there are in the normal control panel without the need to create some piece of shit bloatware just to access the options.

actually...you might be right about the extra options...things like OpenGL filters, right?

That was my opinion on the matter, thats why I'm with the standard one. But with all these sexy new games to play, I thought I would see if it would offer an improvement.

I think catalyst AI is disabled in the control panel only drivers. (non CCC version) at least that was the case in the past. AI has certain optimisations for DOOM3 and Source engine games among others.

CCC is has come on leaps and bounds it loads very quickly now and is much easier to use. I dont see why you shouldn't go for it.

Seems like all the extra functionality of the Catalyst Control Center can be had by using the Control Panel version of the Catalyst drivers along with the ATI Tray Tools app (and still use less resources). Messing around with the Tray Tools app shows that the app even has FRAPS-like functionality, overclock settings, statistic logging, and game profiles along with 2 click Resolution&Refresh Rate changes (why I got the program and the only aspect I even looked for, to be honest)
