Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) |OT| MMA Ultra(spider)man (NO MANGA SPOILERS)

What's the just of the Magi jokes? Sorry don't go into the anime thread.

It's a popular manga that was given a poor adaptation. It started off with writing issues, later had an episode with infamously bad animation and production values, and was then given a shitty anime original ending.

Come on, that seems like kind a big plot point new viewers like us had no way to realize :/
If it's not that important then okay, but this kind of "explanation" is why original material talk is completely banned in some threads (like Game of Thrones).

I agree. This thread is turning into a minefield fast. I've already read the manga so it isn't an issue for me, but I think people who have already read the manga should be discussing such details in the ....manga thread.

Otherwise this thread will become an unhealthy place for anime only viewers to browse.

This made me laugh really hard.
Normally, it's two episodes per month, but for the past few years, overall, it's pretty much been equivalent to a monthly series, actually, yeah.

Shingeki no Kyojin episodes are considerably longer than Berserk ones though.

I must say that the 3d Manuevering Gear is one of the cooler means of personal transportation I've seen in fiction in quite a while. A game with that kind of movement would be really sweet.

I haven't read Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyoujin) manga but is it good idea for me to just watch anime without knowing what happens next?

The Attack on Titan anime was pretty great. But I hate to be "one of those" but I do think it's better going into the anime with the manga in mind (available in the US or wherever you get your manga). For a creepy, sad, yet hopeful story, the PG-13 vibe of the anime doesn't really hit at the same emotional gravity and overall fear the characters experience -- literally, characters are using every last trick in the book to keep humanity safe, but I got a more "hot blooded" impression from the opening and drama of the anime series (of course, this is one episode, we'll see what happens with the rest of the series) . Nevertheless, the artwork is great and the production values look pretty top-notch.

Please watch, but also read, Shingeki no Kyoujin/ Attack on Titan -- it's really intense, and definitely reading it felt like it was almost... everything but a real Japanese manga. It's very different.

For now stick to the anime, the art of the manga is kinda ugly. But if you cant wait for new episodes, read it.

So, it dawned upon me that Eren's "dream" in the first episode wasn't actually in the manga. This, along with the priest added to the city scenes in the introduction might be some of the "original material" which they were talking about. It seems the anime is enjoying the liberty to foreshadow stuff even more than the manga does.

I can't say I recognize every single thing in the dream sequence though, anyone else want to take a shot at it? (Remember, mark ALL spoilers carefully, especially if there's any manga discussion in here, since lots of people probably haven't read the manga).

In sequence:

Episode 1 spoiler:
It's pretty clear that the last two scenes right before he wakes up is actually a vision of what happens at the end of the episode when his mother is taken and eaten. So... is the entire dream a vision of what is to come in the anime in reverse order? :)

A few those images look to me like they might be
the aftermath of the recon corps' attack on the titan at the beginning of the episode.

So? The art gets better later on, and the artistry certainly isn't a deal-breaker. If anything, I think it works for the style of drama.

Thus far, I think the manga and anime really give off a different vibe.

I agree, the manga is quite creepy. Maybe the anime will be, too, but so far it clearly isn't.

The Magi anime was awful and it was based on an amazing source material, just like this, which no one thought could be fucked up to that degree.

I thought magi anime was good and interesting. I did read the manga, and yes, there were some cuts iirc. Can someone give me a list of things they cut off that made the anime bad ?

Just saw episode 1, seems to follow most of what I remember from the manga. Pretty good and satisfied so far, hope it keeps getting better. Love the art, animation was fine, music was good and the atmosphere works pretty well. Titans look spot on as well.

I decided to catch up with the chapters I hadn't read yet:
from ch 33-43, story and events are pretty interesting but I've lost some of the excitement. I found the whole "X hours after seeing the titans" thing to be very confusing. If the author meant that I'm supposed to put all these pieces together then that has failed as everything feels fragmented and all over the place for me. Hints about the story that were given in each of these "x hours after seeing titan" events will be things I forget because too many things are going on at the same time. I wish the focus would just be on one group.

Also I feel they are taking too long to reveal the secrets behind the world. They are pulling the "you're getting very close to knowing some of the secrets but not yet, you have to wait another year lolz!!!" several times. If it's going to take another 20 chapters before we get to know who these titans are and what their purpose is then the interest for me will be mostly gone. It will be like "Oooooh right they are supposed to go to the basement to find the answer, I just forgot it because of the endless side missions they put in the process". It hasn't exactly ruined the manga or anything and it's still very enjoyable but it's also a bit tiredsome and the one-monthly wait doesn't make it any better.

On a more positive note I find the addition of other people who can transform into titans quite interesting, even if this was something you could have predicted to happen long time ago. Also the addition of the gorilla-like titan is pretty nice, only because of how different he is compared to the rest. Hope things will get better.

I watched episode 1 and having read a few chapters of the manga some time ago, it's pretty close to what I remember. I liked the animation and the character designs were translated pretty well from the original source material. Will keep watching for sure.

Ok, people. Give me all good anime that was released after Gurren Laggan [moment when I more or less stopped watching them]! Focus on good shounen/seinen, the more serious the story and charachters, the better.

Thing to note, I saw Blassreiter [really liked it] and Macross Frontier [had to watch it because of my love to original series].

I had a lot of fun with Highschool of the Dead.

You should be aware though that it's rather unlikely to get a second season.

Why don't you ask about it in the Anime thread in Community. You'll get a lot of assistance there!

Because Fairy Tail and Magi ended, I need to get a new anime to look forward to every week. I watched this and it was quite a strong first episode, especially at the end. Looks like I found a new good anime!

And just think, by the time this series ends. Magi will be back! You're so lucky!

I enjoyed the first episode but am afraid this is going to become another Claymore or Blade of the Immortal; awesome manga but disappointing anime with not enough production values to do the drawn action justice.

Wouldnt it be better for humans to live deep underground?

Or do they not have the tech and machinery to do that in this world?

It might be a little safer, yes, but it's not better. I think it'll be clearer as they reveal more about the world, but it should be noted that what happened in ep1 is not a regular occurrence. Humanity has had good reason to believe that they are completely safe behind the walls for about a century now.

Well, let's say the series ends at about chapter 34. When the series ends, the manga should be at around 49 chapters. If they wait a couple of years, there should be enough material to produce another season. Rinse/repeat indefinitely until the manga ends.

That scene was pretty faithful to the manga and its effect.

Aaaaand my nightmare's continue :(

Holy crap I didn't know 2011 had that many good anime that came out that year. Most of my top favorites except Beelzebub and Ben-to are on that list. In 2010 I'd have to say that was my worst year except for MM!.

Can someone tell me if their are girl giants in this anime because i could have sworn some of the giants looked like girls.
Especially the one who ate the MC's mom,
because it definitely looked like a girl.
