This can actually open up into a nice little discussion about the pros/cons of ordering online vs. going to a store, especially now that a lot more places are charging sales tax for online orders thanks to some states cracking down on it.

Anyway, regarding the CC DVD and games sections: Is it a concerted effort to make them as disorganized as possible, without even so much as lettered tags to guide me through the shelves, or is there a twisted logic to the madness? I don't see how anyone can ever find whatever they're looking for unless it's sitting on the new release rack. Tonight was a rather blatant example: The G1 Transformer box sets were in both the scifi section and the TV boxed set section, and the attempts at alphabetizing the discs in ANY aisle were met with varying degrees of failure. Beast Wars season 3 was nowhere to be found, and the season 2 box had multiple copies spread throughout the TV section. I won't even talk about how a copy of Clerks X was sitting in the kids section.

What, are you guys too good to admit that Best Buy does a better job of keeping the shelves organized or something? I'd love to buy some stuff from CC, but I can never find what I came to buy, and most of the time the guys on the floor can't either.

For the most part every Circuit City I've been to was pretty worthless.

Shame on you CC.

P.S. Don't even bother buying an extended warranty on anything over $100 through

Circuit City. Worst Service Ever.

Yeah I work there (in computers and imaging) and the Entertainment section was always a joke to me long before I started there. Best Buy just murders it in layout and display. The only reason I stuck to CC is because they seem to have slightly lower prices for the random obscure DVD I'd be looking for.

huh. my local CC's actually pretty well organized, alphabetized and everything. service could use some work seeing as the last 3 times I had to go pay at the customer service desk because no one's ever at the main checkout counter.

the Circuit City in my area is a "mini" so it pretty much sucks. The games section is fairly small, and the DVD and CD areas are pretty pathetic (if magazine sized rack can even be called an "area"). I also hate how there aren't really any designated checkout counters and you have to track down an employee to pay for your shit.

I havn't worked at CC for about 7 months (YAY!), but here's how it goes in games.

Every store has a "games expert" (actual title) in charge of maintaining the games area. Depending who this is, the area may be in pristine shape, or be horrid. District and regional level managers never check to see if games are alphabatized. At most they might check the planogram for the hardware and accessories. The dept. manager for games is also in charge of the whole small electronics area, and music and movies. In some stores this manager is also in charge of the customer service area and warehouse area, so they rarely check either. It is really all up to that Games Expert to keep their area organized.

Officially, Gamecube and Xbox are supposed to be alphabatized after being broken up between regular games and Players Choice/Platinum Hits. Playstation 2 splits up between sports and Action/adventure (A.K.A. Not sports) as well as the greatest hits. Game boy is alphabatized with no categories.

works for Gamestop (lol)
I bet you that the inventory disorganization system they got going on in Circuit City is one of the reasons why the chain has had TWO video game clearance sales in the last 12 months. They don't even update their prices too, which was evident if you took in the massive clearance sale back in July.

My Circuit City suffers from the disorganization as well. It's one of the reasons why I don't really shop at Circuit City, besides the ridiculous sales

Oh I hate that too. Too friggin lazy to chase down an employee. Meh.

I'm glad they at least remodeled the place. Remember when the whole place was covered in grey paint and carpeting and had lighting as dull as an Italian restaurant? At least now I can go there without feeling depressed. That place was such a downer.

I don't even look at DVDs there anymore. I'm lucky if they even have what I'm looking for, if I can find it. Best Buy does it loosely by genre and then alphabetical. I have no clue what any of the Circuit City stores I go to are trying to accomplish, so I just don't take the time.

As for the cash register thing, I don't like it because it seems as though they avoid that area just so they don't have to be the one to ring you up. It's a pain.

I've been to a newer, larger store that honestly doesn't have any of these problems. The problem there is that they never seem to fix the shelves, so if someone moves something, it just sits there for weeks.

The game expert at the store in Covina is pretty good then. I went in the store the other day and saw this bargain bin with games thrown around in no order (face up). Not two minutes later, I saw it again and the games were in the corner of the bin, spine up, alphabitized and arranged by system.

I prefer this store to the Best Buy I used to work at. I met more rude employees there than customers.
