[Hitler Stole My Potato]

Mike Doughty's new album Haughty Melodic hits tomorrow and it's fucking beyond brilliant. A friend of a friend got a hold of a copy and I when I listened to it my jaw hit the floor. It doesn't really sound too much like the Soul Coughing we're used to as this is more guitar driven but it does have Mike's familiar tonality and intelligence, which is half the battle. All the songs on it are so accessible that I'm thinking that Mike's throwing it all down and going for the money, which is fine by me. The guy deserves it. Here's some clips:

I like it a lot better than Skittish personally. Haughty Melodic songs seem much better realized than the stripped down stuff that's on Skittish, and Rockity Roll to a lesser extent. All the songs here are fucking fantastic, imo, although Sunken-Eyed Girl can get a little grating with that damn slide guitar. Oh and FYI, there's no live stuff on Haughty.
