Aurora NOW

Hey gang. I recently heard on Coast to Coast about an aurora effect in the sky from recent sun activity. I've never seen anything like this before, but I've probably not been clued in to the right time. Anyway, I'm in northern Indiana and the view of the north/north-east sky is awesome. Not sure how widely visible it is, but I thought I'd give you all a heads up.

I see it here in central Minnesota.
My girlfriend was freaking out about it on the drive home
of seeing The Incredibles. Saw 2 falling stars to.

OH MY GOD!

I have always wanted to see this and never have before. It's INCREDIBLE! I'm near Cleveland and even with the lights from the city, I can see it clearly. WOW.

Thanks for the heads-up...I was going to go to bed.

I took some pictures, but they came out pretty shitty. With the camera's default settings everything was too black, but when I upped the exposure time I got a bunch of extra noise in with the actual interesting stuff.

However, looks like we may get some repeats soon. Doing a quick Google search I ran across http://www.spaceweather.com

AURORA ALERT: If it's dark where you live, look for auroras now. A strong geomagnetic storm is in progress, sparking Northern Lights as far south as West Virginia, Ohio, the Carolinas, Colorado and Utah.

...

More auroras are possible on Nov. 8th and 9th when a pair of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are due to hit Earth's magnetic field. The CMEs were hurled in our direction by weekend explosions near sunspot 696: an M7-class solar flare on Nov. 6th (0030 UT) and an X1-flare on Nov. 7th (1605 UT). Stay tuned!

A guy at the convenient store next door pointed it out for me. I was surprised I could see 'em with all the light pollution in Minneapolis. I've seen them before when I was in northern MN, though.

Nothing here so far tonight. Been looking every 15 minutes or so. It's a little more cloudy tonight than last night, but I'm not seeing anything through the breaks in the clouds.

And for you jaded people who've seen it a million times, I'm 36 and had never seen it before. I thought it was awesome and really humbling.

With the Northern Lights being so far south, I wonder if a version of the movie Frequency is being played out somewhere now. "Don't take that path in the blazing house Dad!!"

I'm in northern Illinois and have partly to mostly clear skies right now but don't see the Aurora Borealis .... is it meant to become more visible later on into the night?
