I got it

Looking at my swag, I'm concerned that I've become everything I hate: typical fangirl.
Ohhh what ya get?

I've been getting help off Fred, but now that me building my first PC is a reality I'm trying to nail down the build before the end of the weekend. I posted this in GAF's PC thread as well, but any more input would be appreciated.
So the specific requirements I have are; quite, OC-able and great for gaming. With that in mind and with $1800 to spend, this is a rough build of what I'm looking at so far, but I would love some input/suggestions.

Case: Fractal Design Define R3 Black USB 3.0 – $138.00 (I really like the minimalistic look of this case)

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K – $245.00 (I don't need an i7 cause I won't be video editing etc right?)

GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II – $529.00 (Apparently the Asus card is quite and cool with some room for OC'ing?)

MOBO: ASUS P8Z77-V LK Motherboard – $169.00 (don't really know anything about MOBO's, it was recommended to me. Is the Motherboard important in OC'ing the CPU/GPU?)

PSU: Corsair TX-650M Modular Power Supply – $129.00 OR
Corsair HX-650 Power Supply – $129.00 (What is the difference, is one preferable over the other, is the HX also modular, will this be enough power for this rig?)

RAM: G.Skill F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 – $65.00 (8GB is fine for gaming right?)

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001 – $119.00 (I was told to avoid the WD green lol)

SSD: Crucial M4 SSD 128GB – $155.00 (Will be used for the OS and games, I can transfer the games I'm no longer playing to the HDD quite easily?)

CPU cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler - $39.00 (will be enough to keep the CPU cool at mediumish clocks? Say 4.2-4.3)

ODD: Pioneer DVR-219L DVDRW OEM – $25.00 (May not even use it, but for the price I might as well).

What about wifi and Bluetooth support, any suggestions here?

Currently sitting at $1613 without wifi/BT or shipping.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I would probably grab those off iTunes.

I ... I dont know what to say here.

The show was just an advertising vehicle about nothing. I mean, if you're going to watch a show about nothing, at least go with the good ones.

I was thinking about it but I've already got a PS3 and standalone player, I don't think I'd ever burn blurays either given the price of disks.

How does it look Vince? Any idea about the wifi/BT thing?

I only contributed as far as I know, sorry. Just thinking in terms of the future proof side of things (ie watching blurays on big screen via hdmi if thats something you would do). Are games for pc likely to come on those discs or are you a steam person?

I would probably suggest getting wifi/bt is a no-brainer, but I dont know what you would get. And more generally speaking, PSU is the one thing you don't want to cheap out on. Beyond that, I tend just to leave PCs alone because my patience and their reliability do not make best buddies.

Did not see Shan. Nearly bought Kranburn comic but remembered I don't read comics.

Best outfit of the day IMO was Marty McFly Jr. Had the jacket, hat and hoverboard. Probably shoes, too.

Talked wife out of buying one of those sushi plushies.

I don't understand the correlation between these two, at all.

I'm pretty much a Steam only PC gamer :)

Thanks for the tips anyway mate, I haven't been this excited about building something in.... forever.

wait what. we asked shan and she said she didnt watch gg
I think I missed something... why did you ask me? Lol.

Shame I didn't run into you guys :( I'm so exhausted now.

We're like the same age, how was that not a thing for you?

At 15-16, a certain population of the ladies at my high school suddenly started finding life very serious and thus placed upon their hands, fingerless gloves. It was like visual code for "if you're not willing to dye your hair and think you're deep, don't talk to me"

Aren't fingerless gloves like what nerds wear to be like ninjas?

Modular PSU just means you pick and choose which cords to have in there rather than a big tangle of shit!

8GB will be fine for a long while, by the time 16GB is recommended it will cost like $30 to upgrade.

I have run Green drives for the last 7 or so years with no issue for media drives. Transfer speed is great. Important stuff on the SSD. Although that is a great price anyway! Looking forward to prices dropping again since I originally paid like $80 for my 2TB HDD 2 years ago.

Maybe look at the Sandisk Extreme SSD. The 128GB is around $100 and MUCH faster than the M4 but on the whole I don't know why it is so much better and so much cheaper. Shaneus runs one, I run the exact SSD you are looking at and it is glorious. Even if it isn't as quick as the Sandisk. Even at 128GB I have plenty of room for games (including RAGE on there!). The 256GB Sandisk is pretty cheap too though. Depends on what you want on your main drive.

Y NO PICS?

Also sushi plushies? WANT PICS TWO PLEAZE!

Yeah, there is quite a bit more than a couple of servings here lol.
:/

Not sure if understand.

Nope, never had that fad up in Sydney. Least it's an obvious enough sign, so you can easily avoid them. I like how it only lasts a year though. I imagine the gloves being passed down to the new group of 15 year olds.

Y NO PICS?!
I've posted all the pics I took on Twitter. Couldn't get one of Jr because it was pretty packed at that time. The wife took a few more with her compact (including one of Jambo in his Mario costume--not sure if she got the g/f in her Chell costume--which I'll post later unless he objects). No idea why I didn't bring my DSLR.

Cheers mate, will change the SSD to the Sandisk. I think I'll get a better PSU as well, just incase I want to SLI in the future.

I have to admit I'm a little nervous about building this thing myself, I guess I'll just have to watch plenty of tutorials. There is the option of paying PCcasegear to build it, but part of the fun is trying to do it myself. Hopefully I don't fuck something up. :)

What. The. Fuck.

Did Clive Palmer just have a good idea?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-30/let-asylum-seekers-fly-to-australia-palmer/4102422

Mr Palmer does not support offshore processing, and says the current system puts asylum seekers in a difficult position.

He says even though many asylum seekers can afford plane fares, they are not allowed to fly so they turn to the riskier alternative of trying to reach Australia by boat.

"People who are in Indonesia and want to come to Australia cannot buy an airline ticket because the Australian Government stops them," he told the ABC after the Liberal Party's national conference.

"All that needs to happen is that the Government needs to stop telling airlines and other people not to give people safe transport.

"If they come down here and if they're refugees, that's one thing. If they haven't got a legitimate claim, they can go right back on the plane the next day."

Mr Palmer says the current policy impasse is costing lives.

"We're not living up to our international obligations. If you lived in Syria, if your children were being bombed and murdered, would you leave a country or would you stay there and be killed? What sort of Australians are we, what do really stand for?" he said.

edit: its not all good, at the link he goes on a bit of a silly rant as per his MO, but if theyre going to come, they may as well come in a safer mode of transport.

Tasmania doesn't have a team because according to Nielsen/Oztam..... tasmania doesn't exist!!!

(tv ratings with regards to AFL are only counted for the mainland capital cities)

I have that same psu and it is awesome, was tempted to do the same and go for 750 instead but I can't see myself going sli with all the realted issues and huge cost involved.

Also it is really straightforward to build a PC, takes maybe 4-5 hours taking your time. Modular psu REALLY helps keep the stress down. Just jump online and Google around for a few writeups that include putting the CPU cooler in as that will be the more stressful part since it is one of the first things you do. Once that is done you will be feeling awesome that it wasn't as painful as you thought it would be!

Who knows, maybe it'll be there tomorrow. I'd say if there were a Halo 4 thing it would be more likely something to do with the Game Masters exhibit than Comic Con, given the schedule I saw.

Not really fussed I didn't see it. Besides having to wait to get in because the place was at capacity, it was a pretty fun day. Totally knackered now though.
