Avatar Frontiers of Pandora update coming this December (3rd person mode, NG+)

It's a definite buy for me now. I'm okay with first person, but it felt especially weird for this game. Update timing with the 3rd movie is smart.

*sigh* ...now if only there was another update - but this time with full PSVR2 Support -> 3D immersion perfectly in line with the movie franchise :messenger_sunglasses:

I own it and only played a few hours but that third person mode means I'll sink some real hours into it.

Great support! Good job dev team.

It needs a PSSR update as well.
It would be great if they brought the advancements in their PSSR utilization from AC Shadows into both Avatar and Star Wars, but I feel that if anything along those lines were to ever happen, it would be once the updated PSSR comes out next year.

Got this on Steam mainly for the graphics.
It is a good looking game.
I need to play it more, I've only gotten a few hours into it before moving on to other things.

Thats what it should have been from the start, just imagining how clunky its gonna be in 3rd person

How the fuck hundreds of people spend five years developing a game like this without realising something the community realised in an instant is baffling to me. Of course it should be third-person.

It's retarded only for console players on 30FPS. Come on... Not everything has to be adapted for console market.
Nah he's right, first-person is up there with pre-rendered backdrops and levels as a solution to long-vanished technical limitation. In real life, people don't walk around with objects permanently held up at eye level. The minute you realise what that would like in third-person is the minute you lose all sense of immersion. Player preference also speaks for itself: first person games are a much harder sell outside the competitive shooter space than third person.

Is this a new trend? More and more games are starting to do this it seems.

I wonder if there will soon be a dedicated button in most action/adventure/horror games, like in racers, to change the camera view!

-Smoother 40fps
-Rebalanced combat

Coming just in time for Avatar 3

December? It's July, when's avatar 3 release? It better be December or this is Ubisoft realising that assassins creed was a flop and they have no big AAA game this year and need to please shareholders (unless I'm missing some magical Ubisoft aaa title off my radar, wouldn't be surprised)

next they will be announcing there will be a Star Wars outlaws big new expansion where contrary to their whole ethos suddenly this new story introduces you playing as a Jedi (but you must be non binary and from an unheard of sub Saharan region with purple hair) also planned while they still have the license

MASSIVE is a good dev, I don't know if the Division team made StarWars or Avatar.
But just like Division, Avatar world I am sure would be very pretty to just roam around

Yep. I actually made a poll on this a while ago and the results were eye opening because there are so many ardent defenders of first person on this board.

75-25% in favor of third person. It's just a loud vocal minority who should be ignored by everyone here, and especially at studios who are literally trying to adapt a cinematic IP. What was worse was that they chose to shoot all cutscenes in first person which severely limited their storytelling potential as the player had to be grounded for the entire length of the cutscenes. That meant no epic cutscenes whatsoever. Even COD developers know not to do this, and have Blur produce some of the best pre-rendered cinematics in the business for each campaign.

And im not even buying the whole competitive shooters need to be first person because thats what people prefer narrative, because fortnite has literally become the most popular shooter in the world after PubG became the most popular shooter on PC. CoD is also constantly adding third person modes to their playlists because they are extremely popular. the only reason why they limit them to their own playlist is because it gives some players an advantage around corners. Which btw is a huge limitation of first person shooters. You literally have zero spatial awareness.

There are people in the thread arguing there shouldn't be first person games? I thought nothing could surprise me anymore in this clown world… but here we are.

A lot of people love to play barbie dress-up with their character and get upsetti spaghetti when a game doesn't obscure a big chunk of screen real estate with their pretty princess OC.
