awesome platformers that need sequels but will never get them

Maybe I want another Klonoa. I mean there have only been two in the main entries(not counting GBA titles) and damnit I want another one.

What completely gets me is that even if RKA got a sequel it wouldn't be RKA 2. It'd turn out to be Sparkster 2 or some shit like that. It was bad enough that Sparkster was re-designed to look like some xtreme idiot with hair that makes it look like his head is on fire but the gameplay just totally misses the point in both sequels. The controls have been changed around, the levels are long as hell and filled with repetition, and those games just focus far too much on the rocket pack.

The thing is Sparkster is supposed to be a Possum with a rocket-pack, not a rocket-pack wearing Possum. Sure RKA has a few instances where the pack is required but for the most part using it properly is up to the player. In fact the few instances where the pack is required serve more as tutorials than anything else as they give an idea of what the pack can be used for and how it works, then giving the player free reign to do as they please.

It's like how the later Sonic games forced Sonic into these levels where he needs speed to survive. It's no longer an advantage it's just a necessity. That's not interesting game design at all. It's hardly a wonder why the only people that talk about the sequels are the ones who never played the original.
Hit the nail on the head, my friend.

...and I swear, when I was reading those first two paragraphs, Sonic immediately came to mind. :lol

I want a Klonoa on PS3 and also a sequel to I-Ninja. Other than that, I wouldn't mind a new Haven: Call of the King.

Only one other person in this entire thread.

Seriously GAF, you fail and I hate all of you.

The GBA titles are awesome, I don't know why you don't count them

This is a bit of an unconventional answer, but I feel that Doki Doki Panic (better known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in the USA) is in desperate need of a proper sequel. I know a lot of people looked at the game as the black sheep in the Mario series, but there is no doubt that it was one of the most creative platformers of its era. There really hasn't been another game like it, and it's a shame. I miss the awesome shortcuts, the Arabian themes, the multiple characters, and the ability to pick enemies up and throw them. One minute you'd be flying on a magic carpet, and the next you'd be digging through sand or bombing through walls. The game was full of imagination and it's a shame that many of the central themes in the game weren't used again.

It is hilarious the amount of games in this thread already have sequels.

Listing Klonoa? Has a sequel.

Gex?

Rocket Knight Adventures?

They've got sequels.

If we only listed great platformers that never had any sequels, this thread would have been done after 5 posts.

This would include a very large number of platformers that don't seem to have made it to this generation. Banjo-Kazooie, Jack & Daxter, Sly Cooper, etc.

There was this PSOne game that had you as a police dog in mech, catching criminal cats and putting them in your backpack. You could shoot bubbles at them to trap them.
Man, I loved that one.
