I just finished reading Superior Spider-man. I've been a fan of the character since I was a kid, but I only got into comics not too long ago and only recently started surveying the Marvel side of things. But while I really enjoyed SpOck, I've still yet to read a story with Peter Parker. Clearly a mistake that must be rectified. Help me rectify it, Spider-gaf.

For reference, I've seen the 90's cartoon, the Spider-man Beyond or whatever it was called cartoon (it took place in the future), the Raimi Movies, the Amazing Spider-man, and Spectacular Spider-man. Of those, Spectacular Spider-man is far and away the best incarnation of the character I've seen due to its effective humor and lengthy arcs devoted to developing not just Peter's character, but also the characters around him, as well as really effective Magnificent Bastard-type villains in Norman Osborn and Tombstone, Foil/Rival/friend gone astray- type with Eddie Brock/Venom, and others that allow for a cast with a fair amount of depth to them. If there is a Spider-comic like that, gimme gimme gimme

Edit: Goddammit. Move to Off-topic please.....though, if there is a good Spiderman game besides Spider-man 2, yeah, recommend that too, why not.

Try Ultimate Spider-Man if Spectacular tickled your fancy. Also has a high school Peter.

did you read Amazing Spider Man starting with Brand New Day and on?

edit: I found all of these Spider Man games to be pretty good

Spider-Man: Back in Black is a good story even though the next arcs can ruin the character for longtime readers. It's a nice revenge story, very different from the usual Spidey stories.

I've being reading superior spideman today and I'm disliking the future Spiderman stuff, very confusing.

Yeah, I considered that the weakest part of the series for the same reason, but I feel overall it's a very strong series, especially when Goblin's involved.

I will be able to provide a complete list in about four or five months, after I've finished my marathon through every Spider-Man comic ever.

Because I'm doing that right now.

No, just kicked things off with Superior.

I'd definitely recommend that next. there are a ton of great spider man stories out there but seeing slott's full run while superior is still fresh on your mind should be your first priority imo. there are two ways you can go about that. you can either start with Brand New Day and read on from there. they rotated a handful of writers and artists for that so you get a lot of varied stories in there and some really hit it out of the park. slott was one of the rotating writers. or if that's too much reading right now start when slott fully takes over writing duties with his big time arc. that would be ASM 648. that goes through ASM 700 and after that it goes to Superior Spider Man 1

For a Silver Age comic, the Stan Lee/Ditko run was pretty good. I was surprised at how well it holds up.

Kraven's Last Hunt is probably my favorite Spidey and well worth the read. Spider-Island was also pretty good if you're looking for a more modern story. It also lays the groundwork for Scarlet Spider, so it gets extra points for that.

Big Time and beyond if you wanna get all caught up. I'm sure Slott will be referencing everything he did in his first Amazing run in the future volume.

Avoid One more day, it's terrible and very nearly put me off reading Spider-Man. I do suggest reading JMS run of Spider-Man and maybe some of the classics stories like;

-The night Gwen Stacy died
-Venom origin story
-Harry death
-Maximum Carnage
-Peter and Mary Jane getting married.
-Torment

I haven't read this, but I hear Kraven's Last Hunt is good.

It is.

Yes, although the story arc leading up to Brand New Day, including Back in Black, is great.

I second that, although One more day wasn't all bad. I initially hated it, but it opened up the possibility of great stories and characters like Mr. Negative and Anti-Venom. I actually hated Superior Spider-man way more, but that also proved to be a pretty decent story.

I don't know, I still feel those event could still happen without One More Day, there was no need for
Peter and Mary-Jane to be divorced and placed in Universe where they didn't get married. Also Aunt May was a better character when she knew that Peter was Spider-Man.

I actually hated Superior Spider-man way more, but that also proved to be a pretty decent story.

Indeed Superior Spider-Man is a fun read and I am currently enjoying it.

You could have easily done those stories and introduce all those characters without setting Spidey back 50 years. One More Day was just Quesada abusing his power. What's the point of writers if an editor is just going to decided how a story goes? Also naming Carlie Cooper after his own daughter was just twisting the knife even more.

Fuck Joe Quesada.

Yes it's stupid but that's what the writer did.

This pretty much it was stupid and a giant middle finger to the fans and the writers, I hope that someone one day undo the event in One More day so that it doesn't exist.

I really really hate Carlie Cooper as she is the most uninteresting character that I have ever seen, I hope for the day when they kill her off permanently forever.

I've never read One More Day, nor do I plan to, but I've watched Linkara's reviews on it. I don't think he's particularly funny, but he's good at going in depth in explaining the events that happened and pointing out criticisms with stuff, so I know what happens and how it's been written. Even if you don't mind the retcon (I don't necessarily, but not the way it was done here), the actual writing in OMD is pretty bad. The characters act like idiots and there are plotpoints that just flat out break suspension of disbelief, and even the dialogue and narration is awkward and artificial. As a whole, while other authors managed to salvage Spider-man with their stories, I don't think we can count "Didn't completely destroy Spider-man as a brand" is something worth praising, and that's about the most positive thing I've ever seen said about it.

Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine
Spider-Man/Human Torch: I'm with Stupid
Marvel Knights Spider-Man
Amazing Spider-Man: Parallel Lives
Spider-Man: Blue

Also heard good things about the new Spider-Man OGN
Amazing Spider-Man: Family Matters

Read Ultimate Spider-Man. If you don't feel like going back through the whole thing, at least pick it up when Miles comes in.

Also, read Crossed.

Spider-Island was fun. Especially as it undid some of OMD/BND's bullshit. And made fun of the whole radioactive semen bit.

In a perfect world they'll reveal Carlie was Mephisto all along and Peter and MJ will earn back their marriage.

The Original Hobgoblin Saga by Roger Stern is fantastic. His whole run was one of great quality really. So happy they finally released an omnibus of it.

You guys owe it to yourselves to read Sensational Spider-Man annual #1. In my too 5 Spidey one shots ever. Not as revelant since its Civil war era Spidey, but still so very good.

Just grab the essential spider-man volumes and read Stan's entire run
Amazing Spider-man 1 through about 100

Some key stuff happened after that like death of Gwen in ~123
then the venom stuff in the 90s if you can tolerate 90s

then JMS run prior to spider-totem

then ask someone else about recent stuff

Oh yeah Spiderman Blue is good.
Ultimate Spiderman is a great self contained run (for the most part)

JMS' Spiderman is fantastic, but read up til the last issue that John Romita Jr. was the artist on.

The original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko run is timeless and good too.

EDIT: Kraven's Last Hunt is good too
