They were lame as fuck the first time around. Really couldn't believe one of their songs was in the guardians of the galaxy game. There is no way in hell peter quill would have been listening to that shit when he was a kid since he is straight and male.

That's a very negative outlook for a simple video of a boy band reuniting. There's no pretending they're 20, it's just entertainment, no more no less. Completely benign, nothing to be upset about except the vertical video, the non-white jacket in an all white outfit video, and some notably less than perfect lip sync efforts.

It's a legendary pop song, especially if you were around when it first released. That song dominated 1999.

However, this is just cringe. It's not even a recreation of the original video. Just a bunch of middle aged men 'dad dancing' in a hanger and miming the original recording. Why?
 
Being a fake fanboy of these dudes was the best method to be close to girls when i was little...my "as long as you love me baby" version was rad 🥲

Yep, they clearly just wanted to do this to be fun and give people an ounce of nostalgia. Props to them. Brought me back to o childhood for a moment and yet again provided another reminder that we are all getting old.

As someone who was born in 1981... I only really seem to have nostalgia for two 'eras' of 80's music. For me 1983 was the pinnacle of 1980's pop, with some of that bleeding into 1984 as well. The end of the 1980's that transitioned into the 1990's will always have a soft sport for me. The stuff in the middle of the decades has always been a mash-up of things that I could take or leave.

I was never really 'into' New Kids on the Block, but I do have memories of kids in my grade school class who would have posters of the NKOTB on their walls, and would be hugely into the group. Listening to Step by Step again... ehh... it's not bad for what it is. I like the video production.

Everything from 1988 to 1990 has this 'squeaky clean' look to it in pop music. Vanilla Ice was huge at the time, always has that clean cut look. MC Hammer had a very clean image. The Grunge look of 1992 onwards really off kiltered everything. All of a sudden everything had to look 'ratty' and grungy. But by the late 90's there was an attempt to bring back that 'clean' look to a degree with boy band image.
 
I always liked when the key changed and they stood up from their stools. In all their songs.

In fairness though, they've got a banger strategy going of filling a cruise ship once or twice a year with their aging fans and then monetizing the shit out of them while on the high seas.

Their best song, who filmed that vertical, and I guess they were just at the same old airplane hanger.

The majority of girls in my high school in the early/mid-90s loved Backsteet Boys. Those women are adults with disposable income now. If BSB went on tour again, they would make bank because all of those women would go, and take their now teenage daughters with them.
 
Pretty sure that's not their voices in 2025, its just a new video. Don't know what the point of this is really, but I hear they did a concert in the Sphere thing...I like them honestly, their old songs. The newer ones, not so much.
