"Creating high-definition content such as animation is a very important theme for us. We expect Blu-ray Disc to strengthen our content technology and enable higher picture quality."

"The BDA is a membership organization comprised of almost 100 industry leaders all working to create the next generation of high-definition technology and content. Bandai Visual's decision is the recognition that high-quality content needs high-quality technology," said Kiyoshi Nishitani, Senior Vice President, Executive Officer of Sony Corporation, on behalf of the Blu-ray Disc Association. "We are confident that this trend will continue with more content companies continuing to join BDA."

Blu-ray, the choice of the otaku. Makes me wonder what they're gonna do with all that extra space on japanese anime dvds. Seeing as most of them come a whopping 2 episodes a dvd as is heh.

Your avatar fits this perfect, Blu Ray = Girls in the Background
HDDVD Girl in the Foreground

Lol actually in that anime those 3 dancing girls in the back are idiots and the kid in the front is a child prodigy...

I've honestly not kept up with the blu-ray vs. HDDVD argument (irrelevant to me seeing as i'll end up buying whoever wins heh) but blu-ray isn't compatible at all with the old dvd standard is it? Only ask because i read an article recently talking about how NEC had made a drive that was HDDVD, DVD, and CD readable.

What anime is that?

This stuff with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD makes me think of the jets and sharks from westside story. I can imagine the sony exec asking the bandai exec is he ready to get jumped in.

The thought of repurchasing my anime DVDs on Blu-Ray / HD-DVD is a little depressing :/. I guess I don't have to, but it's still going to be tempting (and highly expensive..)..

Screw that, the only show id bother rebuying is Eva and even thats a stretch.

Well dvds don't last forever... but yeah I wouldn't rebuy either unless theyre really tossing in tons of extras and its like super quality compared to the R2 DVDs.

They'll release anime-licensed games for the PS3 so it's nothing but a logical move of theirs to offer movies which are playable on the PS3 along with games

Oh crap. Sweet news.

I was just watching my FLCL DVDs the other day, and seeing as they are un-fucking-beleivably well mastered and the sheer vividness of the images was making me melt only on S-video, I was starting to loose my mind thiking what it'd look like on the soon to arrive sony HDTV (tomorrow!) with a toshiba 720p-converting DVD player hooked up with HDMI...

And now this great news of High definitiion anime.

I'm just... so happy... I could cry! :*)

And I'll jump on the azumanga daioh bandwagon: it's awesome, I'm in the process of watching the entire sries again over the holidays :D
