I was wondering if anyone knows what's the bandwidth usage of Windows Messenger in idle state. Assuming only 6 contacts on the list that are always online... A rough estimation/approximation/guess would be nice too.
Its trivial. The number of contacts doesn't matter. It sends a packet every so often to the directory server to tell it your status and get the status of your contact list. The amount of bytes is so trivially small that its usually less than the traffic that goes back and forth between your DSL/cable modem and your bandwidth provider.
