Rareware definately had a pretty good presence this year in the form of "Kameo: Elements of Power", and "Perfect Dark Zero". Despite these two titles, Rareware Ltd. is already looking to the future. While talking to a few Rare employees, and Rareware game testers who work out of Microsoft, I got into the subject of the next wave of Rareware titles.

You can definately expect a Kameo sequel, if "Kameo: Elements of Power" warrants it according to Lead Designer George Andreas. According to a few others though, George and company are also gearing up to start work on a new "Banjo-Kazooie" title to follow up the first two titles that were on Nintendo 64 over four years ago. According to some employees, the title is in the planning stages, although not much work has actually been done so far.

Another interesting bit of information that will have millions of gamers cheering for sure, is the news of a "Killer Instinct 3", the follow-up to Rareware's fighing games "Killer Instinct","Killer Instinct 2", and "Killer Instinct Gold". According to the employees, a hint was supposed to first be shown in a Killer Instinct arcade machine hidden in "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" that wouldn't really do anything, but would be made to frustrate fans into thinking the machine actually could be unlocked. According to one of the employees demoing "Kameo: Elements of Power", somewhere within the title more clues and apparently, unlockable items/characters that take nod to Killer Instinct will also be there. We will have more on Banjo and Killer Instinct as info comes available.

Part of me is really excited about KI3(KI always had great music)...but another part of me wonders if it can exist in the current market...can it evolve...a lot has changed since the dial-a-combo days. Graphics wise though, it should be sick as hell!

That's not very reliable if you ask me. Rare typically stays very secretive of its works in project. And to add to the unprofessionalism of that site, they still call the company "Rareware", even though they've dropped that moniker ever since the Microsoft buyout.

I've been waiting for KI3 since like, 97 or some shit.

I've been waiting for Rare to use its many IPs (see: RC Pro Am, Cobra Triangle, Battletoads, et al) forever.

Instead, Wallguy. :(

I dunno how much more waiting I can do...

what the fuck is xboxevolved.com? and why should i care, considering they can't spell 'definitely' correctly?

Rare is a waste of time, money and resources... MS should just shut 'em down and hand the franchises over to someone who can actually make a decent game in 18 months.

Oh, those Rare games back then had pretty cool music! (BT, DK, KI) :D
Jet Force Gemini was the shit. Rare's music masterpiece. Killer Instinct, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark sequels? Fuck all that. What we need is a Jet Force Gemini sequel stat!!!!!

THIS MAN SPEAKS WISDOM

Talk about having to reinvent a game... upgrade graphics and KI's gameplay engine just won't cut it anymore... I think...

"Do we really need Banjo Threeie? (however the hell you spell that)"

Yes yes we do. The original collect-a-thon. I loved the first two on the 64.

Thats just the thing, MS really need a dev that makes polished (ala nintendo) games. Sure GBTG wasnt a great game, it was average but conker, kameo and PD0 are confirmed to be great.

Rare take too long, but everyone knows this who has ever played a video game.

Really? Huh, how 'bout that.

Polished does not equal good. I think it's very fair to say that over 90% of everything Rare has ever made has been at best massively underwhelming, and at worst, absolute crap.

And confirmed by who? The designers' moms? Kameo looks super generic, and PD0 looks like garbage.

Before even beginning any new projects (let alone sequels), you'd think they'd think about finishing up what they've been working on for the last 3-5 years. So we can expect to see these new titles on the XBox 4?

I didnt say they looked great did i ?

Oh you forgot to highlight conker too...
No, you said they were confirmed to be great. Meaning they are already great games. I didn't highlight Conker on purpose seeing how it's a remake of an already pretty great game, so I figured it was a pretty safe bet the game will turn out good.

You sir, are absolutely correct. That game was pure brilliance. If a sequel came out for X360, or hell even a remake, I'd be powerless to resist.

Jet Force Gemini had some fun shooting when the game wasn't chugging at 10 FPS and you weren't rescuing those stupid tribals. Remake the game with smooth graphics + no tribal saving = FUN!

90% of everything rare made ? please excuse me if i pass that off as a bitter nintendo fanboy jest.

Kameo has had great hands on impressions by all the media outlets and PDO, although it looked average actually played well.

As for looking super generic, thats your opinion.

Well, I think it's obvious Banjo Threeie is out there, although Killer Instinct is a surprise. I was never a fan of Killer Instinct, but if they can reel in the endless collect fest of Banjo Kazooie the mechanics are there for a solid 3D platformer.

Oh man, you guys thought Outrun 2 bombed, Banjo Threeie would be the Mother of all Bombs, there is no way that game would sell to the Xbox demographic.

Haha. Bitter about what? What makes you think I give a rat's ass about which camp Rare resides in? Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, whoever... they're the most overrated developer of all-time, and aside from a few choice hits, the majority of their work has been entirely forgettable.

Fuck the haters, its good to hear about the sequels.

Rare made some of the best games i've played on SNES and N64, their 360 line up looks like it'll be AAA too. Bring it on!

Man, I pretty much gave up any hope of a new KI. Rare does cock-tease alot but with 360 coming out it would be a good opportunity for the series. AFAIK most of the original KI team are still at Rare (iirc they are the guys doing Conker L&R).

What's funny is that Jet Force Gemini was more Mega Man than Mega Man Legends.

This thread is for you!

P.S. Rare sucks, except for GoldenEye. Blast Corps is cool too

Hahah! I still have that. Playing now, let's see...
Track 11 (Cinder) and 13 (Spinal) still sound okay 10 years later! :D
Most of the rest is so cheesy!! ;_;

So this is what time does to some music huh...

Contra Shattered Soldier tracks sound awesome for the moment.
I wonder how it'll be 10 years from now. ^^;

:lol Can't be a Rare thread without some hate. I like Banjo Kazooie, especially the first one...the closest anyone's gotten to matching the overall feel and fun of 3D platforming since Mario 64, despite the fact that Rare's game is heavily-influenced by that title. More Banjo is good. KI, well, I dunno. Depends on which games Rare is gonna take inspiration from for a transition to modern 3D fighting. It'll be good, I'm sure...I'm more conerned about the style...ditch the fugly-faced people of KI2/Gold please.

Are you suggesting it isn't perfectly reasonable to dislike Rare's emphasis on near-endless collect fests in those types of games?

Personally, if they found a way to revive Battletoads with the most advanced 2D cel-animation techniques possible I'd be a lot less hesitant about them. Of course, I did like Conker so that's all good and well...
